In Inside Out, Joy's hamartia is her overprotectiveness. She tries to suppress Riley's "bad" memories in an attempt to protect her from feeling any negative emotions. Joy does not realize Riley needs these memories to be able to learn from her past mistakes. When Joy disappears and the other emotions take over, she is unable to deal with them and acts irrationally.

Ariel from Dinsey's The Little Mermaid

After seeing glimpses of how life is above the water, this leads Ariel to become naive and not be as appreciative of her mermaid tail. She was willing to make the dangerous decision to trade her voice for legs. Overall, Ariel's internal struggle to satisfy her curiosity led her to leave all the good of her mermaid life.
