He shot Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife when he was only 19. This extreme nationalist seemed to have planned out this assassination at the perfect time because he was almost 20 years old. Execution of murderers was only permitted if the murderer was over 20. To Princip, shooting the Archduke was seen as a "grand gesture" to inspire others to rise up against foreign power.  Princip appears smart but he applied his knowledge to negative and deadly cause.

He was incredibly lucky and was said to have "the luck of the devil".
