Today, I did a question that combined momentum with SUVAT elements. Throughout the momentum chapter, I’ve learnt to split up my questions into two sections of before and after the particles have collided. Ive been using C.O.M to equate the transfer of momentum before and after the collision to find the velocity or mass of the particle. I’ve also been simplifying my problems into smaller sections to clarify the steps. The use of subscripts throughout the problems have been very useful in helping me identify and clarify the values I need to use to solve the question. Lastly, altering the minus sign for deceleration and choosing the direction of motion as positive has helped me avoid a lot of confusion in the questions.

Today I just finished questions regarding the work energy principle. Dealing with kinetic energy and GPE, I’ve learnt to draw clear diagrams and read questions very carefully. Personally, I’ve taught myself to not overcomplicate questions and try to keep them simple, by mentally trying to not complicate questions and by using algebra to try to simplify problem before plugging in numbers at the end. In the future, I will need to make a summary of this mechanics unit and ensure that I understand every type of question that will come up and how they will relate to each other. Also, by clearly breaking down formulas, I learn to break down problems into clear steps so I don’t miss anything.

The two questions that I did were very unique which has taught me how to prove identities within questions to simplify them. Also, by clearly explaining everything I did in the question, it ensures I don’t miss anything, and that the examiner knows what I’m doing.

Today I did a question which involved a lorry where I had to calculate the power. The second part of the question was more challenging because it required me to use an energy method to relate power and energy to find the height travelled by a lorry. The most important thing learned was to use logic to clarify and support answers. In that question, using gain in Ek = loss in GPE helped correct negative signs to get the right answer.
