They did this to dismantle the Iraq military, which was ruling Iraq harshly. In addtion, they had found out that Iraq was producing weapons of mass destruction. Allied forces launched an attack on Iraq, and eventually took control. He is known for his music against wars, and for social change. He was born in  New York City on May 3, 1919 to a family of musicians. He received an early eduacation, and enrolled at Harvard with a scholarship in 1936. However, after he failed an exam after two years, lost his scholarship, and dropped out. In 1940, he organized the Almanac Singers, a folk quartet group, but was drafted into the army shortly afterwards. The war ended in 1945, and Pete went back to writing and singing folk songs.  He founded the Weavers, a folk music group that included Lee Hays, Ronnie Gilbert and Fred Hellerman. They released several albums, but were stopped when he got involved in a controversy about his political status, which ended in 1962. Even with a controvery surronding him, he continued to act as a solo artist, and realesed "Bring Them Home" in 1966 with lyrics against war. Even if you have no opinion on the "war/peace" conflict, you can enjoy his enthusiasm and nack for music. He was a very important social activist, and while he was accused of a few terrible things, in the end he was innocent of all the accusations thrown at him.
