Small colleges have small communities and that gives it an advantage over large colleges.

 First, In a small community students will be more competitive and would want to have the best ranking. I think students would put a lot of effort to be the best and the brightest in a small class. 

Another advantage is that students will 
be not be isolated from the community 
and will be able to communicate with 
each other much more easily. This will also help with depressed students.

Finally, discipline will not be an issue because the entire college will be more manageable with less students.
