Yoshihide Suga, Japan's Chief Cabinet Secretary, said the country will examine confirming the validity of interviews with 16 South Korean women who claimed they were forced to work as prostitutes for Japan's wartime military. The interviews, which were conducted at the request of the South Korean government, were critical to Japan's 1993 declaration and apology, in which it admitted that Japan's wartime government forced women into prostitution for the army.

Retrieved from: Associated Press.

I tried to pick the 2014-2015 period under the Shinzo Abe administration because Japan's relations with South Korea and China were deteriorated in 2014 when Abe paid his respects in December at Yasukuni Shrine, where wartime commanders in Japan colonialism era were honored. South Korea condemned Abe's donation to the Yasukuni Shrine, claiming it a sign of glorification of Japan's colonialism and invading war. Furthermore, in 2015, Japan and South Korea Reach Agreement on Comfort Women Issue.

Retrieved from: Sieg, L.
