I would 1st start off by frontloading these topics. We have a lot of new teachers, this might be a lot of information, however a great start would to introduce and highlight the points.

In my next PL session for a district for which I am supporting, CH 5 is their pre-reading. I am working with teachers and coaches that are implementing ELA lessons and provide EL support services. This chapter is important in helping them see their alignment with implementing the ELR and thoughtfully and intentionally planning using the ELD Standards.

Colleagues should take opportunities to observe and teach intensive newcomer classes to get an idea of the REAL needs of our multilingual learners. We should have protected time to observe each other, other teachers in "successful" newcomer schools and schools that have well-run programs.
