!! explanation: Bruno's curiosity was satiated and the situation he was in was cleared up (or, at least, he thought so) when Herr Liszt snapped at Bruno about his reason to be there, educating Bruno. The use of the phrase "must have been the greatest wrong ever committed to him in his short life" may have been used to highlight his biggest concerns compared to the concerns of the captured and enslaved Jews, and that he is innocent and naive enough to believe his situation is a terrible one, or even possibly one of the worst. The use of these contrasting situations and thoughts have been repeatedly used throughout the book as well.

This shows that he is very emotionally attached to the place where he had lived for his whole life before this, which I (the reader) would've felt too if put in his shoes. He also portrays how Bruno believes in his naive, innocent way of thinking, and is confused when others act differently or speak of things he cannot comprehend. One example of this when Herr Liszt seemed angry below the surface ('why would he need to be angry?' may have been Bruno's thoughts / theorising about his situation - he might have even compared it to his current situation 'surely, I ought to have the right to be mad about moving as well!' [this is only a possibility that was inferred from the text, and was not explicitly stated]). Due to this innocence, he is shown to misunderstand certain things that were told to him, due to his ignorance of the occurring situation. His mindset (and the fact he was not told anything, as he is only a child) makes him ignorant towards the suffering of the people with the striped pyjamas, leaving him to idly ponder it. Additionally, he is shown to slowly grow more restless and rebellious the longer he is bound by the rules. This leads to him eventually deciding to go on an unauthorised adventure by the end of the chapter.

In conclusion, I believe that John Boyne is trying to make us realise the connection between Bruno's thoughts / viewpoint about the situation and the harsh truth of reality.
