Section 3: Reflection

This assignment has challenged my thinking and helped to better develop my knowledge on the importance of building positive partnership with parents. To prepare for this assignment I reflected on the learning intentions and aims of this module, as well as researching the theorists and their theories, this has shown me how these can be interlinked with practice to help with the promotion of partnerships between home and setting. The key aspect of this module was to understand the importance of working positively and collaboratively with parents and carers, I reflected on my practice and the different strategies that my setting currently has in place. By doing this it proved that there is not enough resources and links to other agencies available for the parents.

By researching the initiatives that I discussed in my Padlet and Podcast, the Getting Ready to Learn programme, SENAC and the Barnardo's NOVA trauma support website I was able to see how these types of resources are able to help develop parents’ knowledge and understanding, and how practitioners are able to guide them towards websites and information that is best suited for their situation, this allows for positive partnership.

The assignment preparation encouraged me to reflect on both my current practice within a preschool setting and future practice, by learning about these resources and organisations I will be able to help parents and families facing difficulties by providing help and support through the websites and other professionals. This reflection has helped to make me aware of how to overcome barriers to promote an inclusive environment for children and families. Throughout my practice I will continue to adopt an open collaborative support for all and continue to advocate for those who need it.
