There is a main airport in the city in which I can get a connected flight from airports in England. There is typically up to 2 million people per day on the streets of Rio. While the first carnival was held in 1723, the celebration dates back to the 1650s. The carnival typically begins on the Friday preceding Lent and ends on Ash Wednesday.
The amazing sambodromo stadium that lines the streets of Marquês de Sapucaí Avenue, is built to hold 80,000 on lookers as well as magnificent parade floats and over 5000 dancers and performers. Brazil's top samba schools get the honour of performing in front of millions. Not only is The Carnival amazing to watch, but it is also a competition. A panel of 40 judges scrutinise the dancer's moves, costumes and flare. The winner is then announced at the end of the festival on Ash Wednesday.
The Carnival also brings extensive economic benefits to the country which isn't hard to believe when you consider the millions of visitors that go to Brazil every year to experience the ecstatic environment and entertainment. 
The week brings not only the energy surge of the event itself, but also amazing street parties complete with costumes, food and incredible live music, all of which I would so love to be a part of.

I love to learn about history specifically from around the time of the Incas and Mayans so this is a perfect stop for my Gap Year. 
Other then getting to explore the beauty and history of the ruins, I can also choose to benefit the local economy and people by choosing to be toured by a local guide as opposed to a big company. 
The "Inca Jungle Trek"  takes a total of around 4-5 days and involves amazing views of the jungle's stunning lakes and waterfalls. There are also lots of activities  to do along the way such as: mountain biking, river rafting, hot spring swimming and zip lining. Machu Picchu is a protected UNESCO World Heritage site and so you will need to present your passport and a specific permit upon entry. I have always wanted to go to Machu Picchu and to experience the historical culture of the ruins themselves as well as hike the magnificent jungles that surround it. 
I love the idea of an action packed experience as well so all of the strenuous and super fun activities are perfect for me. It borders both Peru and Bolivia.
