There are 2 types of crust oceanic which is denser and thinner than the other type which is continental crust. The layers are crust, mantle, and core. They differ from each other by chemical composition. The mantle is made of peridotite. The lower mantle is heated directly from the core. The warmer mantle rises and cools then sinks back down. This makes a convection cell. The core is in the center. We know about the core by the planet’s rotation. It is very dense.

• Metallic meteorites are thought to be from the same type of material that is found at the core
• Scientists calculate Earth’s density from the planet’s rotation. To match the total density, the inner layers must be denser than the outer layers. They must be as dense as metal
• For there to be a magnetic field, there must be liquid metal. The metal must be convecting. If the core did not have convecting metal, there would be no magnetic field
