The author drops the reader when he talks about how the protagonist was almost killed. We see this on page 6 when it says," The sound of the gun cocking. The sound of the door unlocking. As soon as she swung the door open, my dad fired a shot. He was shooting at us! My dad! My dad was actually shooting . . . at . . . US!" This got me interested on what would happen later in the story and if it would come back or not.

Some important dialogue between characters is between the Coach and Castle's Mom. This is on page 28 when mother says," I totally get that. But what if I made you a deal. If he messes up in school, one time, he's off the team" This gave permission for Castle to run in track for the Coach. Without this interaction, Castle wouldn't have done track and would continue living his normal life.

Another important Dialogue is between Castle and Coach. On page 153-154, Coach tells Castle," You see this tattoo. It's my Olympic medal. I got a tattoo of it after the man who did this to me" --now Coach curled his top lip so I could see his chipped tooth --"stole the real one. That man was my father. He was an addict. And every time he got high, he got violent. He punched me in the mouth when I was fifteen because I asked him to change the channel on the TV. The Olympics were on. And four years later, after I had worked my butt off to make something of myself, I got my shot to run in the same race I tried to watch when he hit me. And I won. It was the happiest moment of my life. And my mom's. And, I think, even my dad's. But three weeks later... um... he sold my medal for a twenty-dollar high. And that was his last high. He overdosed, right over there on those steps." This made Castle realize how the Coach became a Gold medalist even though he came form the same neighborhood he's from, not a very rich one. He also realized that all the excuses he's been using don't matter because Coach has been through everything he has.

Another important plot event is when Castle doesn't get his jersey for the track team. This is because when the Coach goes to the store to pick up the new jersey's he sees a picture of Castle at the front desk that says he had stolen shoes. He doesn't give him his jersey and asks him to return the stolen shoes. He later pays for it after forgiving him. This is very important because it shows Castle that stealing is not good and to always be honest because he almost lost his place in the team.

This was very important to Ghost because this is the only race he really wanted to do. Even after all the times that he did something unethical and Coach taught him a lesson, he still let him do the 100 meter dash.
