Being in pursuit of knowledge is not a bad thing. Expanding your knowledge will benefit you because you will be wiser and decision-making based on the knowledge you have gained will be easier as well as benefit you, it benefits the people you tell the information to because decision-making will be easier for them as well.

However, the dangers of knowledge could be people taking advantage of your knowledge and only having a relationship with you for the usage of your knowledge to help them. This can bring trust issues and having an extreme amount of knowledge might not have as many benefits as disadvantages.

Theme: knowledge is power vs power is knowledge.

Power

Power gives authority, leadership, and respect (depending on your leadership qualities). Power forces people to listen to you and do as you say. Which in the situation of The Tempest its noticeable everyone wants to be in power. Everyone wants to be listened to and followed because this will bring other benefits. But, (depending on your leadership qualities) some "followers" might disagree with you and want to overthrow you. This means you cant exactly trust your followers and that is a major disadvantage at the island if you dont trust the people who you depend on for most to all things being completed like work on the island.

Theme: Power is what everyone wants, only one can truly have, and some will go to large measures to get it.

Antonio and Sebastian have the power on the ship because of their status. So, they treat the sailors very rudely because they know the sailors cannot retaliate.

Also, Prospero has the power on the island because of example: Ariel is "in debt" to Prospero because Prospero saved Ariel. Prospero uses his power to keep Ariel serving him by guilt-tripping Ariel into believing he is still in debt even though, Ariel is stronger magic wise.

Act 2 - Act 3

Act 2

Topic: Perspective impacts beliefs and and actions because when it is told to someone it is used as truth/evidence. For example: If your friend told you that their best friend and they got into a fight; you would use that as fact and evidence that happened because it was witnessed.

Lines: "Look how well my garments sit upon me, / Much feater than before. My brother’s servants / Were then my fellows; now they are my men." (Shakespeare 2.1.312-316)

Antonio says this to Sebastian to show him that overthrowing his brother is a good idea because it worked out for him. He uses his perspective of overthrowing Prospero as evidence for Sebastian to do the same.

Act 3

Topic: Perspective impacts beilfes and actions because when someone already has a poor perspective on something, something else may seem better to them when actually that is not true.

Lines: "As I told thee before, I am subject

to a tyrant, a sorcerer, that by his cunning hath cheated me of the island." (Shakespeare 3.2.46-48)

He says this so Stephano because his old master was not fair to him. But, Caliban thinks Stephano should be his new master because Stephano gives him liquor.
