Other than that, I do not have any certified drama education, meaning I do not have a diploma or degree in theatre or drama. I did some classes though, which involved long-form improvisation and method acting. Because I did not have any firm education in drama, I wanted to be able to learn whilst I go on this journey. Drama or acting has helped me tremendously, and I hope to do the same for others, despite where they come from. I have met many inspiring people through my career as an actress, and their stories inspire me to keep improving, as a performer, as an educator. Drama has the ability to change lives, spiritually, emotionally, mentally and physically.

I did it as a volunteer for a women association in Singapore. I would say my approach is firstly based on mental, physical and spiritual techniques to apply. I explained them the exercises i use to be on the right state when i perform on stage (voice, visualisation, meditation...). Then i work on the script, trying to integrate all five senses and right rhythm.

Structure gives a lot of freedom and open the door to take advantage of unexpected situation. Also drama should always include some kind of spiritual level as it gives density to the all process.

I work in the Preschool space. Occasionally moving upwards into the lower primary section. I also train/coach other teachers on how to teach quality lessons, using tools for engagement, positive re-framing, etc. Then, specifically other drama teachers for guidance on different perspectives and ways of teaching the same lessons in different ways. I believe in teaching drama/theatre based programmes (not speech and drama), with the overall outcomes focused on "becoming" (becoming characters, emotions, empathetic towards others, etc.)

I started working professionally as an actor in the USA when I was 14 (largely in the musical theatre world). Opened my own singing teaching studio when I was 16 - and jumped into the teaching world ever since then. In the USA, my career was balanced between performing myself, musical directing musicals, teaching drama camps for children, and my private voice studio. My Bachelor's Degree is in Musical Theatre Performance. I have not had any formal drama teaching studying experience. Just courses here and there, and using my experience and skills, and bringing them into the classroom now.

I love working with little ones. I love being able to create a safe space for them to create and have fun in class. Allowing them to be uniquely who they are, and push their personal perspectives on life even further - getting them to see characters from other perspectives, other people, etc. I also love training other teachers and how their positive language, attitude and perspectives can shape the lives of young children. I did not find the preschool space, the preschool world found me. And I love it. It's not every day that people can say that they love what they do. :)

I wish to change people's perspectives on the importance of the arts in a person's life (especially young children). And that there was less parental pressure to use drama to instantly pull certain results out of their children. Drama transformation takes time...Give it time to do so, and they'll notice the subtle changes along the way. Better communication skills, collaboration (being able to work better as a team in school and in their careers later on), overall confidence, higher order thinking skills/creative thinking/thinking out of the box, being more empathetic towards others, being able to see things from other perspectives, etc. With a love for the arts being a bit more rare in Singapore than it is in America, the perceptions of it with parents changes as well, and how it is used. Sometimes I find that in Singapore, we're using drama in a somewhat transaction-like way to get results to prove things to parents and start to lose sight on the true importance (or what I believe the true importance is - purely my perspective).

So many things. Loving the sessions so far! I'm definitely going to start weaving in the concept of using reflection all throughout my lesson plans - instead of just at the end or so quickly in chunks in the lesson. Re-affirming the use of a somewhat foreshadowing in my lesson plans. Linking the warm-up, drama game, etc. to the story book/poem that will get read later in the lesson - so every element in the lesson plan in scaffolding towards the overall objectives (creating more synergy in the lesson plans and not putting things into silos). Creating a warm-up with intention and purpose, not just something random and silly nilly. Also, how I can better find my words to describe the type of drama that I teach and believe in, and how when parents, people, employers ask, I can better answer.
