The Chitimacha was a tribe that lived in Louisiana. The conditions of the place provided them with a natural defense for the enemy attack. The villages were quite large, with an average of about 500 inhabitants. The houses were built from available resources. People generally built walls from a pole structure and plastered them with mud or palmetto leaves. The roofs were covered with straw. Chitimacha were farmers. The modern Tunica-Biloxi indians had developed or adopted the local lifestyle, with the cultivation of maize, a hierarchical political structure, the breeding of molluscs. Archaeological evidence suggests that the valley was the home of many village chiefs, supported by a system of vassalage.
The chocktaw indians lived in the same area from the pleistocene age: they were gatherers and hunted big animals too, such as bison, mastodons, caribou, and mammoths. It was a matriarchal society. They built houses and other structures on short flat hills.

The first European explorer who visited Louisiana arrived in 1528; It was Pánfilo de Narváez who led a direct expedition to the mouth of the Mississippi River. In the late seventeenth century, French explorers arrived here for reasons of an economic but also religious nature, established points of support on the Gulf of Mexico and the Mississippi River. French explorer René Robert Cavelier de La Salle called the Louisiana region in honor of the French king Louis XIV in 1682. The first colony that was founded on the territory of Louisiana was that of Natchitoches (1714) by Louis Juchereau de Saint- Denis.

Apache men were excellent horse riders: they used them to hunt bisons that were their main resource. They used bison meat for food and the hides and bones to make tepees, tools and even cards. They were also excellent fighters because they had to fight soldiers from the Unted States and from Mexico, that often drove the indians out of their lands.
Pueblo indians lived in hot desertic areas, so they built adobe houses with bricks made out of clay and grass: these houses were cool during the day and warm during the night. There were a few animals so Pueblo indians became farmers.
Navajo indians lived in hogans: houses made out of logs and soil. They were hunters and gatherers, but then they adopted farming techniques from the Pueblos, and started herding sheeps and goats for food. They used sheeps' wool to make clothes and blankets.
The alabama-coushatta tribe consists in two tribes that were distinct in the past, but was united because they was similar. The indians lived in small cabins built along the streams and connected by trails. They hunted, gathered and fished.
The kickapoo indians lived in houses made out of wood and every other material offered by the environmentlike bison skin, they was called wickiups.
