  1. - ändernde Wünsche/Bedürfnisse der Nachfrager
  2. - gesetzliche Auflagen
  3. -  Verteidigen oder erweitern der aktuellen Marktpostition

Man unterscheidet unter der Produktpflege(Facelifting) und dem Produktrelaunch. 

Das ursprüngliche Produkt wird daraufhin aus dem Sortiment genommen.

Eine Produkteliminierung ist die Herausnahme eines Produkts aus dem Produktsortiment. Ohne die Produkteliminierung würde das Sortiment immer umfangreicher werden. 
Sortimentsbereinigung
Bei einer Sortimentsbereinigung werden bestimmte Artikel & Sorten aus dem Sortiment gestrichen.
