         <description><![CDATA[<div>Reflecting on this ladder (which was discussed in the session 'Service through Play'), it became very obvious that a lot of what we are doing in KG is not 'student-led', does not involve students in the decision making of their learning, does not allow them to make decision, and gives them little room to make choices that could guide and influence their learning. We are so focused on 'literacy' and their writing that we forget that there are a multitude of ways for this to be taught authentically and through play, as opposed to the expectation that the students must sit at a desk and write about a given topic, that is irrelevant to the child and does not give them the opportunity to really relate or care about their learning. We can plan for meaningful classroom experiences, let them plan and reflect on their play, let them actually 'journal'! Let them journal by reflecting on their day, to write about what they enjoyed, as opposed to 'using a given set of sight words' and a given 'topic'. I feel strongly that this needs to be revised as I have students that are not able to access the learning due to the expectation of the 'journal writing'.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>I found this presentation very insightful. The clarity she provided with the misconception many students have about conducting research was priceless. Many students do think researching is to go on the search engine e.g. Google and retrieve information. Most of our students copy.<br><br>I look forward to explicitly teaching the sub skills of research. First defining what research actually is:<br>Search is ' to look'<br>Research is to 'look again' and add to the body of knowledge<br><br>I also enjoyed learning about the Method of Action Research (MISO) and look forward to introducing this to my students.&nbsp;<br><br></div>]]></description>
