Encourage vocalization, teach them to take care of themselves, encourage and motivate them.

Failure could result in toddler feeling shame or doubt and inadequate due to overly protectiveness or unrealistic expectations.

Improved sense of balance, skipping and jumping, can speak in sentences, and gains awareness of other people.

Erickson's stage of Initiative vs. Guilt: Gain confidence to initiate their own learning, seek out new experiences, strive to understand new activities.

Promote learning new skills and new experiences, help them with independence, and learning.

Failure could lead to child becoming hesitant to take on new challenges and not willing to learn new motor skills.

Child can assist in household duties and show more responsibility.

Begins thinking logically and thinking of other perspectives to things. Learn to problem solve and follow rules.

Erickson's stage of Industry vs. Inferiority: Child feels pleasure from successfully completing projects and recognition for their accomplishments.

Praise child for accomplishments, allow them to help with chores and problem solving.

Failure could result in child having sense of inferiority and lack of self-worth.

Able to acquire large quantities of knowledge and capable of reasoning skills.

Erickson's stage of Identity vs. Role Confusion: Interested in changes in there body and confusion of identities as they transition from child to adult.

Help them with important life decisions and provide them to have someone they can trust.

Failure to do so can result in rebellion and inability to determine there identity and direction in life.

Motor sensory skills also peak and visual and auditory senses start to decline.

Erickson's stage of Intimacy vs. Isolation: Transition from being dependent to independent and having responsibility, making commitments to others and establishing themselves in society.

Assess for stress, watch body language, involve significant others as appropriate, involve them in decision making.

Failure could result in isolation and loneliness, as well as fear of making commitments and communication.

Reflexes, muscles, and joints respond more slowly and decrease in balance and coordination.

Erickson's stage of Generativity Vs. Stagnation: Time of shifting concerns to next generations and increased involvement with friends and community.

Help by encouraging self care, involve them in decision making process, encourage lifestyle changes.

Failure could result in regret of life choices feeling unmet goals and limitations, unable to establish their worth and contributions to the world.

Motor sensory abilities decline, visual, auditory, smell diminish.

Erickson's stage of Ego Integrity vs. Despair: Many challenges result in retirement, loss of spouse or friends, new family roles and increasing concerns about health.

Promote participation in community, assist with role adjustments, encourage active learning, and use of memory skills.

Failure could result in despair and sadness and lack of satisfaction with decisions.
