The Gustav Line

The Gustav Line or Winter Line was a defensive fortified line prepared in Italy with Hitler's disposal during the Second war.

The line divided the Italain peninsula into two parts: the Tyrrhenian side and the Adriatic side, passing through the Highland of Abruzzo( the region where we live) and the Majella mountains, along the Sangro river.
Its function was to delay the advance of the Allies, thanks to the natural barrier of the mountain.
Many studies have examined this area, inaccessible and less known and many researches have been made to rediscover the traces of war memory present in the territory where we live and thanks to the historical memory of our local community.
Today, we Italian students from Abruzzo, want to remember all the victims of the war so as to never forget but share paths of peace and collaboration.

Primo Levi was an Italian writer and partisan deported to Auschwitz concentration camp because he was Jew.
He managed to escape the lager and, back in Italy, he dedicated himself to write and tell the atrocities suffered and seen in the Nazi extermination camp.
"Se questo è un uomo" is his masterpiece.

Johanna Neumann, a German Jew, had rescued during the Holocaust, thanks to Albania, the only Muslim kingdom in Europe, writes at the beginning of her long article DPA agency.

Albania has not only protected its 200 Jews against the Nazis, but has also provided shelter to some 1800 Jews who came as refugees on its territory from other European countries.

"Albanians have often ignored the threat against their lives to save their guests, and no single Jew has ever been sent" to the concentration camps, "Neumann says.
