Background: My name is Lily and I have been lucky enough to grow up in Brisbane along with my family. I absolutly LOVE Yellow and Dogs.

Motivations: For the majority of my education I went to a private girls school, which i am very lucky and privalidged to have gotten, but i also reaslied how much i hated the schooling system...especially my teachers. Uring my last couple years of my education i alwasy said iwould never become a teacher or even step foot in another school ever again. Well that went straight out the window. I randomly enrolled in it as my mum encouraged me to becuase 1. she is a primary school teacher and 2. becuase i wasnt too sure what to do at university. Anyway my motivation to become a primary school teacher is to to be the exact opposite of the teachers i had. I want to create an inclusive, safe and encourging classroom for every students that walks into. I want to be a teacher the students value and respect.

Expectations: Personally, within the next 10 year i would like to try a few different schools/roles to see what i can do and what i enjoy. Whether that is goimg rural for a couple years or picking up a few different roles within the one school. I want to experiment different styles of teaching ect to see what worls best and also to make sure i dont ever become bored of doing the same basic things everyday/every year for the rest of my career.

Teaching philosphy: Going off what i have already said above, i want to make sure that every students feels welcomed and encouraged to do their best. I want to create a mutual level of respect between me and the students. I want students to feel comfortable enough to ask for help and take risks. I want to congradulate students who take risks even if they fail, as this is amssive part of improving and building resiliance.

Worsley, T., Nanayakkara, J., & Burton, M. (2019).

     - Schools should feel obligation to teach and influence children about the importance of having a healthy and balanced lifestyle, especially primary schools.
     - I don’t think health and wellbeing should necessarily implemented into university courses unless it is appropriate to the course (physio, medicine, exercise science).

Tuohy, W. (2021).

- Mental health is extremely important to me as I have many people close to me over the past years struggle in silence. With this strange and fast evolving world, children are being situated in environments of pandemics and depression which results in them having a less “normal’ childhood. Children are contantly hearing the news about new outbreaks of illness and wars. These things are bound to have negative effects on childrens mental health. Therefore I feel school should think more into providing younger children with the education needed about mental health and the opportunity to talk about the struggles.

Rymill, L. (2020).

- I do feel introducing dairy programs into schools is very important although I feel the inclusion of other milk alternatives for children with allergies and diets.

- I feel this is something I missed out on during my education and to this day I could go days without having a glass of milk. If I grew up with this knowledge I feel I would have a very different diet and outlook on the consumption of dairy for not only your health but also the dairy industry.

Graham, B. (2021).

- Growing up going to a private school and always being friends with boys from other private schools it was always very prevent the lack of education these boys had about respectful relationships. Being consumed in there own “boys will be boys” culture they never fully understand the importance of being respectful to girls.

- Although I feel we also forget that girls can still be the culprit and that it isn’t just about educating the boys about healthy and respectful relationships

- I feel introducing programs earlier into students education will tremendously reduce sexual violence experienced by both teenage girls and boys.

b) Should schools be health promotion sites? Why?
Yes, schools should be used as health promotion sites. As schools are a place where children spend a large amount of time from the the ages of 5 - 18yrs i feel it is their duty to provide weekly sessions about healthy lifestyles, realtionships with food and poeple. Schools should take students economic status into consideration especially as this could be a reason for an unhealthy diet.

c) What is the role of teachers in promoting health in schools?
Teahers need to act as influences and role models when it comes to promoting healthy lifestyles, whether this is through teachers showing what they eat during the week, the ways in which they stay active during their busy days.
Teachers shouldnt be able to get away with not providing students with the sufficent education on healthy lifestyles/diets just because they didnt educate themselves. Therefore schools should require teachers to reeducate and refresh their knowledge on this every couple of years so they are able to give students the best advantage of living a realistically healthy life.

d) What should be the expected outcomes of health promotion/education in schools?
I think the expected outcomes of health promotionand education should be to provide students with the knowledge on what a relastic health lifstyle looks like and how they can acheive this. this could be through having healthy snack morning teas where students will be provided with healthy snacks. this is great for student family may not be able to afford fresh food ect. or making sure all students are having the opportunity to hace 1 lesson a week that is aimed at educating students on the importance on taking care of their health and looking after their bodies.

e) Any critiques of the articles?

a. What types of ‘capital’ can be found within schools? Provide examples of each, if possible, from your placement experiences.
In each school there are various types of Captial that can be found. A school can have phsyical captials like books, laptops, buildings and other types of resources that enable student to learn. School also have human captials like knowledge and skills and finally they also have social capitals like connections and relationships with other poeple.

On my placements my school had various amount of these things including great learning facilities for students to learn and experiment with new things. They also were given resources like books and laptops to help the education even more.

b. Which of these types of ‘capital’ is most likely to impact on both the learning environment and well-being of staff and students? Why?
I feel that the capital that would impact the students and staffs learning environment and wellbeing would be the social capitals, specifially the relationship the students and staff have. if the relationship between them is negative this will impact the students ability to thrive in their leanring environment.

c. Why is teacher well-being considered to be so important and why is there an onus on schools to ensure student wellbeing?
If teachers wellbeing is being affected negativly it could result in their teaching to be neglected or negativly effected. The school plays a large role in looking after their students and ensureing they are safe and getting the best education they can receive. Wellbeing issues are considered critical to academic outcomes as promoting mental health and pro-social behaviour.

d. How can a sense of belonging be fostered in schools?
This can be achieved by teachers using cooperative learning strategies, promoting democratic and pro-social values. By doing this, students autonomy and hightened students sense of community. It is found that school connectedness can be defined through 2 interrelated components, affective/supportive realtionships and commitment. This provides both students and staff, the feeling of importance and knowing they are doing well.

Pre-service teacher perspectives of the costs and benefits of professional experince?
a) What is the paper about?
This paper is about the finacial hardships of being a pre-service teacher, especially relating to placements. It's period of time that where any pre-service teacher will struggle to work, if at all. Which can create for alot of stresses expecially for students that are living out of home and independent from their perents or other financial supports.

b) How does the paper relate to your understanding of your health as a pre-service (or future) teacher?
Last year I started a new job at a before and after school care, which means i only work early mornings till 9 and 2-6 in the afternoons during the week....no weekends. This makes it impossible for me to work and earn any money during those 3-7 weeks of placement. Over my last placement I had to start doing uber eats as i knew that my work was going to be closed for about 5 weeks over the holidays which meant i wasnt going to be earning for 2 months basically. Overall i completly understand and align with what this paper is saying.

c) What are your thoughts on the paper? (Was it useful? Did it make you become interested in further readings? Why?)
Yes, i would be very interested in knowing if there is any compensation plans for students on placement from either the university or centerlink ect or if there has been any discussion around this topic about those types of things. I know this is a major problem not just for pre-service teachers but also nursing and med students.
