         <title>14th Amendment </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>The 14th Amendment was ratified on July 9, 1868.</p><p><br></p><p>This amendment grants citizenship to anyone born in the United States even if they were previously enslaved. This amendment also gives all citizens equal protection under the law<sup>.</sup></p><p><br></p><p><br></p><p><sup>This amendment did not change voting rights. African American people were granted citizenship and equal protection under the law but they were still denied the rights to vote in some way.</sup></p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>The Black Codes were established in 1865 and 1866.</p><p><br></p><p>Black Codes were laws that were made to limit the freedom of African Americans. They did this to ensure that African Americans were able to still do cheap labor.</p><p><br></p><p>This Black Codes did change the voting rights. One of the reasons this law was passed was to decrease the chances of African Americans voting.</p><p><br></p>]]></description>
