The whole poem could be saying that isolation could be as much induced as it is not, as the main character never really tried to reach out and find others until he was pushed by his mother. When he finally was with someone that was also an Indian(even if temporary), he kind of gained more confidence and lost his sense of isolation. As on day one, when totally isolated, he didn't eat the quail eggs, but when he was comfortable, he ate 4 quail eggs.

When someone is part of one community for a long time, it becomes their safe place. Once you branch off and go somewhere new, it becomes easy to feel lonely and isolated from everyone. This is because you aren't with your usual crowd or people that share your interests. So, community is about making you feel safe, but also understanding that you should try something new as well.

But once you overcome that isolation and want to become a part of that community again, it can take a while. You need to find a common ground with each other and peace with yourself to feel comfortable and truly a part of that community, and to move on from feeling isolated.
