attack of fort Sumter

When the southern states started to secede from the Union, it was still hoped that the crisis could be solved diplomatically. those hopes were literally blown away when the confederacy attacked and captured Fort Sumter.

This attack could not have been avoided, if it wasn't Sumter than it would've been some other Union fort.

Lincoln’s Election as President

It's no surprise that Lincoln's election was one of the major reasons for the cause of the civil war, The tension in 1860 were very high between the north and the south. Lincoln was very openly abolitionist and anti-slavery so when he came to office the south felt threatened that he was going to take away all of their wealth and land that was created from slavery.

Had Lincoln not been elected in 1860 then the civil war may or may not have still happened or it could've still happened at a later time.

Bleeding kansas

Bleeding Kansas showed the lengths that both abolitionist and pro-slavery support were willing to go in order to abolish/keep slavery.

Bleeding Kansas could've been lessened if american troops were sent their to keep the peace or if kansas was admitted into the union as a free state by missouri compromise regulations.

Fugitive Slave Act

With the passing of the Fugitive Slave Act, slaves were no longer safe in Northern territory. this meant that northerners who had little interest with aiding slavery now had to directly help with it.

Southern secession

The south seceded from the union as a response from Lincoln getting elected as president and the north's hostility towards slavery.

The South's succession could've been prevented if lincoln had not been elected president and thus delaying the onset of the civil war longer.

Kansas-Nebraska act

When congress passed the Kansas-Nebraska Act, it effectively nullified the Missouri comprising reviving the issue of slavery once again.

had the issue of the Kansas territory been solved following the Missouri compromise, the years of violence that happened in Kansas could've been avoided. this would have reduced the amount of tension between abolitionists and pro-slavery people.
