Two of the bullets missed and one hit the left side of her forehead. The bullet luckily stayed just under her skin and went into her right shoulder. She was unconscious for a few days and made a full recovery. The Taliban had banned girls from attending school and Malala always had an interest in learning. Her father owned a school in the city Swat valley, education was always a big part of their family. In 2007 the Taliban started to take over her city and they banned girls from attending school along with many other recreational activities. The Taliban destroyed about 800 schools within one year of their control. Malala decided that her right to an education could not be taken away and she stood up to the Taliban. She started a blog and anonymously posted about her life and her want to go to school. She became very well known in her city and was awarded the Pakistan National Youth Peace Prize. Many were not in support of the award and months later she was shot. Women in the past were thought of to only be useful for housework which is not true.
