Although it is tempting and sometimes helpful to play a video for book reading, books read by a live teacher allow for more engagement, discussion and learning. Some tips-

Use exsiting videos- find a book you want to read on YouTube or another source. One teacher will share their screen and hit play, but then mute either themselves or the video itself - The other teacher can read the story aloud and the children can then easily see the pictures. - The teacher controlling the screen will just need to follow along in case it is necessary to pause the book to allow for/facilitate conversation

Do a back and forth story times

For this, teachers will share the book reading job. Just like above, find a book readng online. In this case you will want one that has lots of back and forth dialogue. (Ex Piggy and Gerald) Be sure to expand your screen to ensure that everyone can see the full pictures and words. Mute the video by selecting audio button on the bottom middle/left once the video is playing. The gear or settings button on YouTube allows you to adjust the speed of playback- Be sure to practice ahead of time so you know your part and have the right timing.
