         <description><![CDATA[<p>People began immigrating from Europe to the U.S. in the early  1800´s with many wanting to escape their poverty and start a better life abroad. However life across the sea didn´t start all peaches and rainbows, many immigrants had begun their new life in unsanitary neighborhoods and cramps apartments complexes having at least 3 families per room.  </p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>The NAWSA (National American Woman Suffrage Association) had been fight for women´s suffrage for 80 years before female American citizens were given the right to vote. This didn´t come easy as almost 2 million members organized campaigns, protests, parades and hunger strikes over the years to earn the right to not only vote but have the same opportunities as male American citizens.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>In 1920 the 19th amendment was made law, this meant that 26 million females in America were given the right to vote, however this did not mean the same for women of color who lived in America. Native, Asian, Latin, and African-American women all had to fight for their own right to vote as communities to gain their own suffrage.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>After Mexico broke off relations with the U.S. because the U.S. broke the treaty, President Polk assumed Mexico would like to sell some land to the U.S. but he was wrong. War began with President Polk sending troops to claim pieces of land and Mexico sending their own troops to defend their own land. About a year later both country negotiated, the U.S. bought a large amount of Mexico's territory for $15 million.</p>]]></description>

Queen Liliuokalani was not pleased with American´s interest in her island and wanted to reduce the number of Americans on the island but failed as she was over thrown by plantation owners followed by Samuel Dole. Dole soon became governor and Hawaii was soon annexed my America.</p>]]></description>

This strains Americas relations with Spain and with some yellow journalism and the mysterious explosion of a U.S war ship that was given to Cuba to help fight its independence against Spain. This causes a war to erupt between the U.S. and Spain.</p>]]></description>

A few years after gaining independence Texas asked the U.S. to be annexed, but the U.S. was wary of Texas´ debt and slavery laws. While Mexico threatened war if Texas was annexed.</p>]]></description>
