According to google Alonso means “noble and ready for battle”. I was giving this name because my dad wanted me named after him. I think that my name does fit me because I've always wanted to be in the military and fight in battles. I like my name because it’s unique to me. Hardly anyone has my name, especially how it’s spelled.

Tamales

Mmmmmm tamales. Of course I had to add tamales because of their yumminess. Tamales is also a cultural food that runs in my family. The reasoning is because my grandma made tamales every Christmas and my aunts and mother carried on that tradition. Another reason I chose tamales was because I used to help my grandma and mother make them and that's how we bonded.

Flautas

I would have put burritos but I chose flautas since I can eat these everyday. Flautas are really easy to make and a food that I can rely on when I'm hungry. At first I ate them plain but as I grew to love them I added cotija cheese and crema. I love this food so much that I begged my mom to teach me how to make it. I now know how and make them at least twice a week.

My father grew up in Nayarit, Mexico and that is where I wish to go. Above is a picture of a beach in Nuevo Vallarta, Nayarit. This is one of many beautiful beaches in Nayarit, Mexico. Although I have never been to Mexico I’ve heard good things about it. My mother has told me about the pretty beaches there and all the nice people.

My grandparents are from Jalisco, Mexico. They were born and raised there and even had most of their kids there except for one. They came to the U.S for medical treatment and ended up staying here in the U.S. They then had their final kid which is my mother here in the U.S. I found out a few years ago that my grandparents are actual 5th cousins.

Curly hair

A physical feature that I associate with my culture is my curly hair. I got my curly hair from my 67 year old grandmother, she always had curly hair and loved it to be curly. I always cut my hair short to slick it back instead of having it curly because I don’t like it much. I believe that in the future I will grow my hair out and let it curl naturally. I’ve always felt unique when I had curly hair because only 3 people in our family have curly hair.

I have always been confused with my religion. My whole family is Catholic and I thought that I was forced to be one too. As I got older I had doubts about if God is even real. For 3 years I considered myself as an Atheist not believing in any god or spirits. I’ve always thought that these things were fake and that people were dumb for believing in that stuff. But then I had some problems and asked god to help me and to prove that he is real, the problem was solved. I then started to believe that there is a God and became Catholic going to churches with my grandmother.

Spanish

My first language is English and my second is Spanish. At first I only spoke English because nobody taught me Spanish and I also didn’t want to learn because I thought that it was a stupid language. As I grew older I started to realize that I should embrace the Spanish language because most people aren’t bilingual. My learning of the Spanish language was boosted when I moved to LA because almost everyone speaks Spanish. I now know about 60% Spanish and am still learning by hanging out with Mexican friends.

I chose any clothing from the brand Pro Club because they are good quality and cheap. Also I started to wear this because most Mexicans express their Chicano culture by wearing this type of clothing. I thought of it as a good idea to embrace my Chicano culture as well. When I first saw famous Chicano people wearing this brand I felt motivated and moved by it. I like having this as my style because I feel like it fits me and also I feel comfortable in this style.

My hero is my grandmother because she inspires me to keep going when things get tough. I say this because she would take me to church and show me the ways of God. She also inspires me because out of all the things that she has gone through in life she still kept moving forward and doing what's necessary to survive. I am also really grateful for her because she provided me with shelter when I got kicked out of my uncles house. She has also protected me when i was younger from people saying bad stuff about me.

I relate to this song because a few years ago I was broke. I would have to reuse the same clothes for school and the same ripped shoes. Also I have a lot of dreams and recently just set myself some goals for the future. I also had a new perspective of life and I am thinking about the positive side of things instead of the negative. About 3 months ago I started to work with my step dad as a handy man and I work hard to make money by any means necessary.
