I think sharks should be protected because sharks now are endangered species and they cause is humans because they don’t recycle and plastic ends up in the ocean but then end up animals bodies because sharks might think that the plastic is micro plastic. According to https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2018/feb/05/whale-and-shark-species-at-increasing-risk-from-microplastic-pollution-study#img-1 it says in the first paragraph “Whales, and some sharks and other marine species such as rays are increasingly at risk from micro plastics in the oceans, a new study suggests.” This is already a bad thing for animals such as sharks but this is getting worse because then in the last paragraph it is saying “She said research on whale sharks and fin whales had confirmed that filter-feeding species were exposed to toxic chemicals, perhaps through the breakdown of micro plastics in their digestive systems. “Exposure to these plastic-associated toxins pose a major threat to the health of these animals since it can alter the hormones,” she said.” this is making me wonder that not just humans are causing harm but plastic are causing harm to the animals this shows that sharks are soon going to be extinct. Did you know that Each year, fishermen kill as many as 73 million sharks, often cutting off their fins — for use in shark-fin soup, a popular dish in much of Asia. And tens of millions more sharks die accidentally each year because of fishing gear set for other species.

"A recent report published in the journal Marine Policy revealed that an estimated 100 million sharks are killed by humans every year. The paper added that the number of sharks killed could actually be anywhere between 63 million and 273 million. " Sharks are becoming extinct. They are also hunted for shark fin soup. Sharks cost a lot of money. that's why people hunt them, so they could get money. 11,417 sharks get killed per hour world wide and 12 humans get killed per year world wide. So more sharks get killed than humans. Did you know that sharks play a very important role in the oceans in a way that an average fish does not. Sharks are at the top of the food chain in virtually every part of every ocean. In that role, they keep populations of other fish healthy and in proper proportion for their ecosystem.

Sharks should be protected because they are endangered. Sharks may be extinct in maybe a few decades later. 11,417 sharks are killed per hour by humans world wide and 12 people get killed a year by sharks world wide. According to "https:// www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2014/08/13/sharks-threats-extinction/13991033/" they said "We're killing about 1/2 to 8 percent of the sharks out there per year," said Boris Worm, professor of marine biology at Dalhousie University at Nova Scotia." This shows that we are killing a lot of sharks just for money. A bowl of shark fin soup costs 100 dollars, which is a lot. Another reason is sharks are also becoming extinct. In the website “ https://planetsave.com” it said “Sharks may become extinct within only the next few decades as a result of the significant declines they are experiencing, new research has found. Shark populations have been declining at a rapid rate as a result of the booming trade in their fins, recreational fishing, and being caught as by-catch in other forms of fishing. The current rate is at 100 million, or possibly more, sharks being killed every year. When this is combined with their very slow growth and reproduction rates, it’s having a devastating effect on the animals.”

Sharks only kill humans because when humans go surfing they look like shark food to sharks because when sharks are very hungry the think that humans are the seal family members including sea lions and elephant seals, the great white preys on dolphins, sea turtles, rays and other sharks. according to " https://oceanservice.noaa.gov/facts/sharkseat.html " it states " Some of the larger shark species prey on seals, sea lions, and other marine mammals. Sharks have been known to attack humans when they are confused or curious. If a shark sees a human splashing in the water, it may try to investigate, leading to an accidental attack." In addition according to " https://sharkopedia.discovery.com/shark-topics/shark-myths-and-misconceptions/#myth-sharks-deliberately-hunt-humans " it states " The notion that sharks deliberately attack humans is false. Scientists and organizations like NOAA (the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) agree that sharks do not normally hunt humans, but if they do attack, it is usually a case of mistaken identity.
Sometimes sharks will investigate unfamiliar objects and potential food items by taking a test bite. Sharks don’t have hands, of course, so they use their sensitive teeth and gums to explore unfamiliar objects with their mouths.
Unfortunately, given their many rows of sharp teeth, a few shark species may cause an individual to bleed to death after a single bite. Even so, sharks rarely ever consume human flesh when they do bite, indicating that they ultimately find us unpalatable. FACT: Sharks only mistakenly attack humans, and ultimately find us unpalatable. FACT: Shark attacks are very rare. You're more likely to be killed by a cow or falling coconut than ashark. FACT: Sharks come in a wide variety of shapes and sizes, from the giant yet gentle whale shark to the tiny cookiecutter shark."

A single Whale Shark pectoral fin can sell for up to $20,000 USD and a Basking Shark pectoral fin can fetch up to $50,000 USD. In comparison, a large percentage of shark meat is undesirable or un-edible (often due to the high urea content), so it has a relatively low commercial value, netting merely $0.85 USD per kilogram. Other shark by-products like cartilage, liver oil and skin drive a very small portion of demand and are marginal in dollar value."
