Chicken Alfredo will always be my favorite food, because of what it did for me. Chicken was always somewhat cheap, and so was the sauce, and the noodles. It was easy to cook and fit my mother's schedule as she worked at night. As a struggling family back then, it kept me alive and happy. Chicken Alfredo has always been a big part of my life. As a tradition to always remember life hasn't always been this good, my mom occasionally makes Chicken Alfredo for dinner. Chicken Alfredo will always have a special place in my heart.

My dish reminds me of the ox-tail recipe in "Like Water for Chocolate" with onions, which play a huge part in the story. Much like my family's tradition of cooking Chicken Alfredo the onions helped Tita remember the ox-tail recipe. In Tita's memory, she thinks; "the childhood games in the kitchen, the trips to the market, the still-warm tortillas, the colored apricot pits, the Christmas rolls, the smell of boiled milk, bread with cream, chocolate atole, cumin, garlic, onion” The two dishes are the same in the idea that they bring back memory and follow tradition like how my dish helps me remember a time in my life that wasn't the best.

Food can play a big role in the lives of people mentally and physically. After being with John for a while and being mute, the smell of ox-tail healed her, as it is said to heal mental and physical wounds. She got her passion for cooking back which she feared she had lost the most as she sat in silence, the onions caused her to cry. Tradition can sometimes help with authenticity. In "Like Water for Chocolate" food is a huge tradition in the house and everyone has a reaction to cooking food like Tita's tears when cutting onions, or how my dish is made to bring back memories. Tradition is made to fulfill wants and desires that's what family traditions are for. It is honored through the participation of it.
