-How others interact and view them: They may feel like they are ignored by people who only see where they are and not how they got there.

-Stereotypes: Many people think that those who are homeless are drug dealers or addicts but in reality they are normally people who have had many difficulties in their life.

-Self Value: People begin to look down upon themselves and they begin to think of themselves as inferior.

What impact does homelessness have on an individual and how can we provide adequate resources for every Boston resident in need? How has COVID-19 increased the importance of expanding access to housing for all?

Per the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), as of January 2019, Massachusetts has nearly 18,500 individuals experiencing homelessness daily. These figures covered family households, Veterans, unaccompanied young adults, and those experiencing chronic homelessness. Homelessness is a tough issue to address. There are many strategies that have been used over the years with limited success. Providing free housing, for anyone who is homeless, and an obvious solution, is financially impossible. Not surprisingly, homeless“communities” have become epicenters in cities for COVID-19, with by far the highest infection rate.

The cost to society of homelessness. Homeless people are most likely to get transmittable infections, illnesses like tuberculosis which can be resistant to virtually all treatment. So they use high cost emergency room facilities a lot more than other people. For two years during the last recession between 2007-2009 the homeless had 6 million more emergency room visits. Possibly because homeless people have poor health.

The reason why we should care for these homeless people is that we give homeless people a place to stay, sleep, shower, and eat that will make sure that homeless people don't get those transmittable infections, illnesses, or mental break downs. This will make sure that those people don't have to go to the hospital or emergency rooms as much as they do because of those infections etc. During the last recession between 2007-2009, the homeless had 6 million more emergency room visits. The reason why they got these diseases so easily is because of the way they live and we need to change that.
