The side effects of this condition is uncontrollable itching, (Amjadi et al., 2012). Women have turned to peppermint oil to relieve these itching symptoms instead of topical steroids or oral medication which can have adverse side effects. When applied topically, it can have relieving effects. When inhaled through a diffuser by using 3-4 drops in hot water, it can also reduce incidences of nausea and vomiting as well. Rather used externally or through inhalation, it's safe for pregnant women to use, (Braun & Cohen, 2015).

Zinc plays an important role in the babies early stages of growth and development. As new mothers, it is important that you provide this supplement early on to prevent complications such as low birth weight, prematurity, and even death. Daily consumption of this supplement can also have an anti-inflammatory effect in pregnancy and prevent pre-eclampsia. For pregnant women over the age of 19, the maintenance dose of Zinc would be 11mg/day . Be sure to check the label of your prenatal vitamin to ensure it includes this vital supplement, (Braun & Cohen, 2015).
