I LOVE IT!! I also LOVE Glee! In this Christmas episode, before they sang this song, the Glee Club has offers to either do a TV special or volunteer at a homeless shelter and they chose to do the TV special. During the TV special, one of the glee club members, Rory, reminds all of them what Christmas is really about and they decide to go to the shelter and help out. This song is so special because it reminds us that while we may be fortunate enough to get presents on Christmas morning and eat lots of great food and have snow to play in, not everyone does. I was in elementary school and the song brought together some of my favorite singers, so it was super cool! I think it really came at an important time when people were becoming more and more materialistic, especially around the holidays. The people who wrote this song, Bob Geldof and Midge Ure, also were the ones who organized the incredible 1985 concert-charity event known as Live Aid.
