The Natives hunted small to medium game like rabbits and deer. In addition to this, they gathered a variety of plants, seeds, and berries in the region. There was also a good amount of farming in the region as corn and squash were often grown, but not as extensive as in other regions.

These Native Americans were very dependent on the herds of buffalo living on the Great Plains. This caused them to lead very nomadic lives as they followed the buffalo while also hunting antelope and rabbits and collecting what plants and berries there were.

Native Americans were able to fish salmon, sea otters, and seals as a main food source. There was also wide spread hunting of animals like moose and elk as well was the gathering of various plants.

The climate of the region suited the cultivation of crops. Tomatoes and sweet potatoes are some of the crops that were grown in the region. There was a small group of Natives that also hunted deer and rabbits as well as gathered plants.
Tribes like the Creek, Choctaw, and Cherokee were able to prosper in this region.
