Opening the hapansilakka

You may have heard bad stories and opinions about surströmming - a Swedish fermented herring. We have bought one in Helsinki Stockmann (for a less than 10 euros) and tried it. Sorry for filming this video in Russian, I originaly did not expect to upload it here.
But the events were such: we went outside our house and opened it there. The smell was not so awful from the distance, but if to smell directly from the can, then yes, it is not that nice. Also, it was very hard to wash the brine smell out from hands! What happened next, is on the other video!

Tasting the hapansilakka

Now it is the time to taste this creepy stuff. It was creepy indeed, something went wrong with the can - it has increased its size, became swollen (do not know if this is an applicable word to the can). Then I checked the best before date and right: it has already passed. Also, I was told that the can was kept in a warm, probably even in a hot place, so it has spoiled a bit. You may see in the video that there is no fish in the can - only bones! This is because the process of decomposing has already begun. But my courageous man was not afraid of this horrible smell and condition of the product. He tried some bones and said it is not good for others to eat. "Imagine the taste of something which is spoiled, dead and rotten - this is it". I myself only licked a bit of a brine and this was enough for me to feel bad.
BUT!!! We did everything wrong. We should have eaten this fish in a couple of days after buying. In our case the can was waiting for more than 2 months. So no wonder it tasted so awful. We will try once again in the future.
If you ever decide to try this Satan's food, DO NOT EVER do this indoors. Only outdoors. And also if the condition of the product is the same as ours - DO NOT EAT IT. My man is just a crazy country guy with a taste for something spoiled, bad smelling and uncooked. If you are not like him - I strongly suggest you to keep away from any spoiled food!

Critical events

Honestly saying, I almost have not experienced any so-called critical events while living in Finland. Everything is very familiar to me, since the culture is quite similar to Estonian and Russian. I will upload a couple of videos soon, but posting a minimum of 8 critical events cannot be accomplished.
