1. Elliot: selfless- Elliot is selfless by how he hides that he is still getting bullied so his mom doesn't have to worry about him because she has to worry about a lot of other things. Evidence: pg. 22, "The last thing he wanted his mom to do was worry about him on top of everything else." This makes him selfless because he thinks about how it would affect his mom and does what's better for her even if it doesn't make it better for him.

2. Oliver: friendly- Oliver is friendly because he approaches the new kid, Elliot, to introduce himself. Evidence: pg. 26, "His smile, if it was possible, grew even wider. 'Okay, Elliot it is then. Pleased to meet you. I'm Oliver."' This shows that he is friendly because he went up to Elliot who was all by himself to meet him and to introduce himself.

3. Stewart: Controlling- Stewart is controlling because he is telling everyone in the locker room what to do. Evidence: pg. 31, "He pointed to Oliver. 'You. You're volunteering to man the showers.'" and, "He pointed to another two boys. 'You and you-- clothing duty, now."' This shows that he is controlling because he is ordering people around and telling them what exact things that he wants them to do and what they have to do.

In chapter 3, page 19 it explains what happens after Elliot is beat up and his mother finds out. It says, "'Elliot? What's the matter? What happened?'
'Nothing's happened.' Why couldn't she go away and leave him alone? He reached for his T-shirt and realized he'd left it in his bedroom--along with his jeans. His head throbbed. He felt sick. The doorknob rattled. 'Elliot, please. Open the door. I know something's the matter. Let me see you.' He hurt all over; he must have all along; he just hadn't realized it. He felt like crying. 'Elliot!' When she saw him, she looked as if she wanted to cry too. But she didn't. She examined there back of his head, insisted he take off his wrecked pants so she could make sure he wasn't hiding any more injuries, then made him take a bath. I feel this is explaining what happened when Elliot tried to keep things from his mother and shows that he is stilling bullied and his mother still cares.

On page 23, it talks about how Elliot feels about all thats happening and I think that's important because it tells us his feelings and lets us know what is happening. It states, "He hadn't known that all that time-- those endless three years-- his mom had been doing two things. First, she'd applied for long-term disability on behalf of his dad. They didn't give his dad a fortune, but it was enough for the deposit on a cheap house. Second, she'd searched for a new place to live. Somewhere away from the city and all the memories it carried. A place where they could all make a new beginning. She hadn't told Elliot anything about what she was doing she had wanted to surprise him once it had all been settled. Then... He pushed the memories away. None of that matters anymore. They were starting again. All of them.
