The Mini-Essay that I’ll be expanding upon is Mini-Essay 5, which discussed what you would personally add or add on to in our reading, Classical Mythology. My Mini-Essay was that out of all of the original 12 Titans, Cronus is the only one with plenty of information, while the other 11 have little to nothing. I did discuss Cronus’s wife/sister, Rhea, who was the mother of the original six gods, and she was portrayed as a caring mother and an embodiment of nature and life.

Initially, I planned to briefly discuss the rest of the Titans as best as possible. However, when discussing my ideas with the librarian, we tried to find valuable sources discussing the Titans. Still, we could not find anything, and whatever we did find about the Titans only talked about Cronus. So, I came up with a plan B. Instead of talking about all of the Titans, my argument is about why Cronus is the one that hogs the spotlight. (Maybe it’s something about being the youngest child.)

Hesiod’s Theogony will be my best option since that’s the only major story Cronus is in.

The search terms I would consider using would be Hesiod, Theogony, Origins of the Greek World, Greek Titans, Cronus, and War between Gods and Titans.

I am expanding on mini essay three “How Do Hesiod and Ovid Compare and Contrast? Where we as a class discussed and brought up many aspects of these two Greek poets and their perspectives and interpretations of classical mythology. I started this mini-essay by stating, “Ovid and Hesiod stress two different approaches to the origin of the world, and humanity as we know it. Thinking back to ancient times it must have been a substantial task to develop theories about the origins of things.

My more focused thesis/argument based on my selected mini-essay is to continue giving a deeper look into these two approaches and how that has helped in the creation of new stories/continuation of Greek mythology. Ovid and Hesiod demonstrated a great personal understanding of Greek myths and some of the possible acts that lead to the conclusions we read about today. I am planning to utilize the story of Prometheus in which he gifts humans with fire. I am also planning to look up what is the point of view of Ovid in contrast to Hesiod regarding this myth. Either way, this myth sets off a lot of things for the gods as well as for the humans. It shows the hierarchy between them and what happens when trying to break off it. I am considering JSTOR and possibly ProQuest as my database for searching more about the topic. I am leading more towards an expert in the subject but also interpersonal opinions and angles from these two authors/poets.

My focus for this research project is to show the differences and similarities between Gods and humans and how it has evolved over the years
Hades is a prime example of how his story has changed over the years, from the stories he was just a guy who wanted a bride. But, in the new movies and stories they depict him as this evil being who wants to kill for fun rather than a guy who was just lonely.

1. The mini essay I'd like to expand on is #4 - How mythology is reused/retold and why.
2. My more focused thesis will be how victims of sexual assault/rape were depicted/treated in greek mythology and how they are retold today to show support victims and to give them power over their abusers.
3. I think the most obvious story to focus on would be Medusa and I would use Ovid to look at her story.
