Chancres can occur on or around the external genitals. The chancre lasts 3 to 6 weeks and heals regardless of whether a person is treated or not.

Syphilis in pregnant women (gestation period) can cause miscarriage, stillbirth, or the baby's death shortly after birth. Approximately 40% of babies born to women with untreated syphilis can be stillborn or die from the infection as a newborn.

How to know if you syphilis is by checking if you have large, raised, gray or white lesions, known as condyloma lata around the mouth, underarm or groin region.
