This week, I spent most of my time observing the class to see how everything works. During Lexia time, I got to walk around and help the kids with their questions. I explained things they didn’t understand and then checked back with them to make sure they were doing it right. It felt really good to see that they understood and were doing well. That made me happy because I knew I was helping them learn.

One challenge I had was figuring out how to talk to some kids about another student’s behavior. I wasn’t sure what to say, so I asked the teacher for advice and she helped me know what to do. My teacher also told me I did a good job when I helped one of the English learners. I spoke to them in their language but also used English to encourage them to practice. It felt great to know I was helping them feel confident and learn.

This week went well, but I faced a challenge during writing time. Sometimes my pronunciation made it hard for the kids to understand certain words because my first language is different. Some words were hard for me to pronounce and for the kids to hear and spell correctly. The teacher gave me a copy of the lesson to practice at home. I plan to work on those words so that next time, I can pronounce them clearly, and the kids will have an easier time spelling what they hear.

I also got the chance to help with testing some of the kids this week. It felt great to know the teacher trusted me with this responsibility, and the kids seemed comfortable taking their tests with me. Lastly, I helped lead the line during dismissal. All the kids listened, stood in a straight line, and were very quiet. Dismissal went good, and I even had the chance to keep introducing myself to some of the parents.

This week was really exciting because I got the chance to help the kids a lot. On Wednesday, even though it was a half day, I ran the class the entire time, I taught ELD phonics, helped with their activities, and made sure everything got done. It was a big responsibility, but I enjoyed it and learned so many new things. It felt great to take charge and see how a full lesson flows from start to finish.

One challenge I faced was keeping all the kids' attention. Some of them weren’t paying attention, and I found it hard to get everyone to focus at the same time. The teacher told me I did really well for my first time teaching the whole class like that. She said it’s normal for kids to lose focus, especially in large groups, and suggested I try calling out students' names to bring their attention back next time. Her feedback made me feel confident and I’m really happy with how the week went.

This week was both good and stressful. I had my first observation, which went well, but there were some areas I need to work on. One of the challenges was making sure all the kids were paying attention. My mentor suggested that I clearly state my expectations for each part of the lesson to help with this. For example, I can let the students know when it's time to listen, participate or work quietly. Even though managing their attention was a challenge, it was a great learning experience, and I felt proud of how I handled the situation overall.

I also taught math for the first time this week and it went well. The students were engaged, and it felt rewarding to see them understand the concepts.

This week went well, my relationship with the students is getting stronger, and they are starting to listen to me more. I had the opportunity to substitute for my mentor teacher, and it went much better compared to the first time I subbed for her. I’m feeling more comfortable in the classroom, and every day, I teach ELD, phonics, and read aloud. It feels great to have more responsibility and see the students respond positively to my teaching.

My mentor and I discussed strategies for managing students who sometimes interrupt the lesson. She gave me helpful ideas on how to communicate with them in a way that keeps the class on track. I was able to use these strategies while subbing, and they worked well.

I had my second observation this week and I think I did a good job. My lesson was based on phonics, and the students were engaged and participated throughout the entire lesson. This observation was recorded, so I was able to watch myself teach. I noticed that I went too fast through the lesson and I need to pace myself better to make sure all the students stay focused. Even though I received good feedback from my observation teacher, and my score improved. I know there are still areas I need to work on, but I’m happy with my progress so far.

My mentor teacher gave me helpful recommendations this week. She suggested that I always set clear expectations before starting a lesson and use more details when giving instructions. This will help the students understand what they need to do. She also told me that I did a great job keeping the students engaged and making sure everyone participated.

This week, I taught a whole math lesson on my own for the first time. Before, I was only responsible for the first part of the lesson, and my mentor teacher would handle the rest. This time, I felt way more confident and was able to lead the entire lesson. It was a great experience, and I felt proud of how well the students participated and understood the content.

I also had a great experience with the students in the cafeteria. I have take them before but it was the first time they students behave really good on the way there and while they were sitting down eating, and I made sure to set clear expectations before we went. I was really impressed because, even the students who sometimes have behavior issues, followed the directions and listened to me. It felt great to see how well they responded to the structure I set, and it showed me how important clear communication and expectations are.

This week, I had an observation and I was happy to see how much I’ve grown. I took some tips my mentor gave me earlier, like how to improve my transitions and student engagement, and I applied them during the lesson. I felt more prepared and focused, and my students responded really well. The feedback from my observation went good, especially on how I praise the students and set expectations during the lesson.

One challenge I faced was keeping the lesson on pace while also addressing student questions and getting them back to focus. I wanted to make sure every student understood, but I also realized that I need to keep an eye on time. This is something I’ll continue to work on. I’m proud of how I’m growing into my role as a teacher and how I’m staying open to feedback. My mentor and I discussed the good things for this week, showing improvement based on feedback and applying it right away.

For my Week 9 I record the TPA video, I taught a math lesson focused on representing decomposition and composition of the number 8. The goal was for students to see how two parts make a whole and begin to understand basic addition in a meaningful way. One part of the lesson I felt went really well was the partner cube activity. Students were excited to shake their hands, spill out the cubes, and count how many landed on each side. It gave them a clear and I also model to see and represent number bonds. I used sentence frames to guide them in using complete math sentences.

Looking back, one thing I would improve is making sure I gave more time for the debrief at the end. Some students were ready to share their thinking, but we had to move quickly through that part. Next time, I’ll plan to start the activity a little earlier to leave more time for student discussion and reflection.

This week, I kept working with the students during math and ELD. I’ve been in charge of pulling small groups during centers to work on sentences or different language activities depending on what we’re focusing on. Doing that every day has really helped me with my classroom management and confidence. I’m learning how to approach different students and situations in a better way.

I had a helpful talk with my mentor about classroom tips. She told me it’s okay to stop a lesson and reset if the students are losing focus, which was great advice because I was having a hard time getting them back on track. She also suggested trying new seating arrangements to help students build new friendships and stay more engaged. I'm starting to understand how small changes like that can make a big difference.
