In the school setting, we typically define this through reading and writing, just as you say in your PD. However, I feel that, for someone to be literate in other things such as computer literacy, one must be able to exhibit understanding of that topic in an appropriate way. In education, there needs to be this dual purpose for literature and media. Not only should it reflect perspectives of people students have never seen before, but it should also reflect perspectives and struggles that readers face everyday. I think that's why I focused so hard on collaboration in my PD. 

The library also doubles as our book room for class sets of novels, but aside from Chromebook issues, there is little to no communication. You are given products and consumers, and you must create commercials or advertisements to sell that item to that consumer.
