Why is Solar Energy Valuable in Arizona?

Well first off, Arizona just happens to be located in one of the hottest and sunniest areas of the country.

In the picture, we see Arizona in Red, which according to the color key means that Arizona can generate the most Kilowatt-hours per day out of all the states in the U.S.

Just outside Yuma, Arizona is the sunniest place on Earth, where the skies are clear almost year round.

This area has enough space and sun to produce sufficient electricity to offset 80% of the world's yearly consumption of electricity.

The possibility that Arizona alone could generate enough electricity to power not only our sunny state, but the rest of the U.S and most of the world, could mean great things for our economy as well as our environment. By producing more electricity than we would know to do with, Arizona can sell and profit off of the extra solar created electricity. Completely powering our homes with solar energy, Arizona has the opportunity to lower its Carbon Dioxide emissions to virtually nothing, all the while helping the rest of the world lower their yearly Carbon Dioxide emissions.

Here is an image of part of the solar farm located just outside Yuma, Arizona. The reason I say part is because it isn't finished yet.

The project is expected to finish by 2014, by which time it will encompass 2400 acres (3.75 miles) and power over 100,000 homes. For more information on the project click on the link provided. http://www.firstsolar.com/Projects/Agua-Caliente-Solar-Project
