"Here's what you should know about student debt"

Student loans are in the news again. This is due to the new government plans. These plans state that people who start college next must pay off their loans within 40 years after graduation. The government says that expanding the repayment period is to reduce bills for taxpayers. The refund is calculated based on the income level.

At this moment loans are written off after 30 years. There is also an interest that will be added to your loan, which is between 1.5% and 4.5%. It's unlikely you'll pay it all back, but just having that amount of debt hanging over your head could be pretty disheartening.

There is a big difference between a student loan from the government and anyone else. Any money you owe is wiped after 30 years and next year that will be after 40 years. How much you pay back depends on how much you earn. It doesn't impact your credit score and your house and belongings won't get repossessed if you don't keep up the repayments.

The rest of the article is not necessary for my topic. But if you want to read it, go for it!

"How soon can student debt be cancelled in the U.S.?"

Borrowing money gives more students the ability to access higher education.

We have now painted a picture of the American Dream containing the white picket fence and also a diploma hanging on the wall.

Seth Frotman thinks that they're in this mess because of failed public policy. The amount of money owed by student borrowers grows to be more than $1.7 trillion. Student debt cancellation is an investment in the people.

Student loan borrowers struggle to save for retirement, to have emergency savings, to buy houses, to start small businesses.

A lot of the increase in student debt over the last decades can be attributed to the rising costs of college. It takes borrowers an average of over 20 years to pay off their student debt. One of the biggest problems is students who took out loans but failed to get a degree.

There are a lot of people who start college and do not finish it. But they're taking out loans to do that. The whole point of borrowing is to invest in yourself. If you don't finish your degree, you're really in trouble.

Opinions on student debt cancellation are very different. For the students, the following statement is the best solution. Student debt cancellation for every student borrower, regardless of income.

President Biden is in favour of cancelling up to $10,000 in student debt for borrowers, but his administration hasn't yet acted on that plan.

Throwing down the costs of education has its pros and cons. It is nicer for the students because the gap between the costs and the student loan becomes smaller. But if schools earn less, the quality of education also decreases.
