The statement, "It's worth losing friends if you're making a positive change for yourself" from the Anticipation Guide connects to the novel on page 53. Junior says, "But I had to stand eventually, and when I did, I knew that my best friend had become my worst enemy" (Alexie 53). This connects to the Anticipation Guide because Junior transferred schools to create more opportunities but ended up losing his best friend in the process. Those opportunities will help him create a life he wants and would positively impact him.

The statement from the anticipation guide, "there is always time to change your life, no matter what" connects to the novel. When Junior noticed that his math book was previously his mom's 30 years ago, he was angry at the way his school system was. He wanted to change his lifestyle so that it would not end up like his parents. Because of this, Junior decided to go to Reardan to pursue a better education and "...get a better life for himself" (Alexie 46). The statement is connected to the novel because Junior chose to transfer to a better school which ended up changing his life for the better.

The statement I chose was "There is always time to change your life, no matter what." It connects to the novel because Arnold was furious when he saw that the Rez still had books from when his mother attended and after talking with Mr. P he said, " If you stay on this Rez... they're going to kill you. I'm going to kill you..."(Alexie 42) which convinced Arnold that if he wants a better life than his parents had, he would have to leave the Rez. So Arnold decided to transfer to Reardan which was a tough journey but it benefitted him in the long run.
