Unoka went to visit the oracle to find out why he failed with his harvest. Unoka was told that his misfortune was due to his laziness and was told to work hard like the other men. The message Unoka received is important to developing Okonkwo's charater because it explains why Okonkwo feels that he doesn't want to be weak and shameful like his father.In the villageweakness is perceived to bring ill fortune.
