Throughout the 1950's many studies came out about the conditions of the Natives reserves throughout the country, many found them disgusting and unlivable due to the harsh conditions and unfair rules that the U.S. government had placed on these people. As WW2 ended the U.S. government wanted to end relations with the Native Americans, ultimately hoping that they would be able to switch their older style livestyle to the new modern ways of the new Americans. With little wars breaking out in many smaller countries, America was the safe place for many immigrants to migrate to. Many expected to become rich when traveling to America, hoping that once they saved up enough money here that they would be able to come back to their home country and be able to provide for their families. However that was not the case for many, with the influence of racism across the U.S. many immigrants struggled to find jobs that allowed them to work for them. The first known ,"Levittown", or suburbs was built in 1947 in Long Island, New York. Invented and constructed by William Levitt, the Levittowns were a huge hit. Houses were able to be built in days allowing for small/beginner families to easily purchase their own home. The amount of Americans living in the suburbs grew by 46%. By the 1950's the average American family was making double the income that an average American family was making in the 1920's. Many women did not want this way of living, they had thought that because they had proven to be a major part in the war efforts by making tons of machines and goods during the war that they would get a little more respect once things went back to normal, that was not the case for most however. The goal of this idea was to allow for a quicker and more reliable form of transportation across the U.S. By 1960 over 10,000 miles of interstate highway had been constructed resulting in yet another uprise in the U.S. economy. Killing around 9,000 victims and paralyzing about 27,000 this disease was not looked past. The first president to take real action on this disease was Franklin Roosevelt, he was a victim of the deadly polio disease and wanted to do something about it. Which is the reason why he started the "National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis". Throughout the next decade, plus a little more, the foundation would finally come across a vaccine for this deadly disease. The middle class of workers lives weren't as fun and prosperous as the lives of the upper class, however they were not as stressful and grueling as the lives lived by the people of the lower class. Many of the people working in the lower class lived paycheck to paycheck, which was a form of the "Poverty line". This was a number that was made from calculating the minimal family food budget and then tripling that figure. This number gave families an idea of what they needed to make in order to afford the daily necessities every family in the U.S. needed in order to pretty much survive.
