         <title>FASHION DESIGNER </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><br>A fashion designer’s job to design clothing and fashion ranges. They typically specialise in one area of design, such as sportswear, children's wear, footwear or accessories. There are three different kinds of fashion designers in the fashion industry.&nbsp;<br><br></div><div>&nbsp;</div><ul><li>High street fashion - this is where the majority of designers work and where&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;garments are mass manufactured (often in Europe or East Asia). Buying&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;patterns, seasonal trends and celebrity catwalk influences play a key role&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;in this design process. It is a commercial area and heavily media led;&nbsp;</li><li>ready-to-wear, also known as prêt-à-porter - where established designers create&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;ready-to-wear collections, produced in relatively small numbers;&nbsp;</li><li>Haute couture - requires large amounts of time spent on the production of&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;one-off garments for the catwalk, which are often not practical to wear. Designs are usually&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;created to endorse the brand and create a 'look'.&nbsp;</li></ul><div>Salary<br><br></div><div>The usual salaries for a designer Starts off low, for example a Design assistant can start at around £16,000 to £17,000. However salaries can go up depending on experience and role in the fashion company you are working for like junior designer can about £25,000 a year, whereas a senior designer and creative director level range from £42,000 to £85,000+.<br><br></div><div>&nbsp;<br><br></div><div>&nbsp;Skills needed<br><br></div><div>&nbsp;</div><ul><li>creativity, innovation and flair;&nbsp;</li><li>an eye for colour and a feel for fabrics and&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;materials;&nbsp;</li><li>ability to generate ideas and concepts;&nbsp;</li><li>design and visualisation skills, either by&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;hand or through computer-aided design (CAD);&nbsp;</li><li>technical skills, including pattern cutting;&nbsp;</li><li>garment technology skills and knowledge;&nbsp;</li><li>a proactive approach;&nbsp;</li><li>commercial awareness and business orientation;&nbsp;</li><li>self-promotion and confidence;&nbsp;</li><li>interpersonal, communication and networking&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;skills;&nbsp;</li><li>ability to negotiate and to influence others;&nbsp;</li><li>team working skills;&nbsp;</li><li>good organisation and time management.&nbsp;</li></ul><div>&nbsp;<br><br></div><div>Qualifications&nbsp;<br><br></div><div>You will usually need a relevant higher education qualification, such as a foundation degree, HND or degree to be a fashion designer. A course that teaches both design and technical skills will give you the practical knowledge that you need to work in the industry.&nbsp;<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>A retail buyer’s role is to plan and select a range of products to sell in retail outlets. The buyer must consider customer demand, including price, quality and availability, market trends store policy, financial budgets when making purchasing decisions.<br><br></div><div> <br><br></div><div>Salary<br><br></div><div>A typical starting salary for a junior buying role would be £19,000 to £25,000. Having said this with more experience of the job, your salary can increase to anywhere between £30,000 and £60,000. With a senior retail buyer could earn within the region of £55,000 to £70,000+<br><br></div><div> <br><br></div><div>Working hours<br><br></div><div>Retail buyers are often presented with very tight deadlines and as a result working hours frequently extend beyond 9am to 5pm. Early starts or late finishes may be especially common when travelling to trade fairs or fashion shows.<br><br></div><div> <br><br></div><div>Skills needed;<br><br></div><div> </div><ul><li>strong analytical skills; </li><li>negotiating skills and the ability to network and influence people; </li><li>team working and interpersonal skills; </li><li>excellent communication skills; </li><li>numeracy skills and proficiency using IT; </li><li>good organisation skills and the ability to multitask; </li><li>the ability to cope with the pressure of having to make important     decisions and meet tight deadlines; </li><li>the capability to work in a fast-paced environment and achieve     targets; </li><li>drive and determination; </li><li>entrepreneurial spirit and a willingness to take risks; </li><li>commercial awareness; </li><li>leadership attributes; </li><li>creative flair; </li><li>confident presentation style; </li><li>a passion for retail. </li></ul><div><br>Qualifications </div><div><br>A qualification (preferably a degree) in a relevant retail or business subject is always handy to have on the CV. Try and be specific to the sector you want to be in from the start, want to work in fashion outlets? Then a fashion degree would be a good start.</div><div><br>Graduate programmes and in-house training are also available. These are particularly useful as they help you to develop your skill set.</div>]]></description>
