לעיתים אנו מרגישים שכשאנו נהנים הזמן עובר מהר. פעמים אחרות, בעיקר כשאנו מתוחים, הזמן נמשך כמו נצח. ברגעי סכנה הוא ממש מתארך וכאילו לא נגמר.

לפעמים אנו רוצים שהזמן יעמוד מלכת. האם זה אפשרי? ומה סוד הגמישות הזו של הזמן, כמו שאנו תופסים אותו?

בקולנוע, הזמן הוא אחד הדברים הגמישים ביותר, אם לשפוט לפי הסרטים שבהם שנים עוברים בתוך שניות, במונטאז'ים שקופצים על פני תקופות זמן ארוכות, בלי מגבלה כלשהי ובחסות העורכים או מחלקת האמצעים המיוחדים.

אך גם בחיים הזמן נתפס אחרת בזמנים שונים ובהתרחשויות שונות. קצת לפי ההנאה או הסכנה שבדברים, אנו חווים את הזמן כאלסטי. החוקרים מעלים השערות שונות לגבי הסיבה לכך. אחת ההשערות היותר סבירות היא שבמצבי סכנה, פירוט הזיכרונות שנאגרים באמיגדלה, החלק של המוח שאוגר את הזכרונות לטווח קצר שלנו, הופך גדול הרבה יותר.

הסיבה היא שזיכרונות פחות נחוצים ומידע שולי, שלרוב נשלחים לזיכרון לטווח קצר ונשכחים די מהר, נשמרים במצב של סכנה לטווח הארוך. אולי זה קורה כדי לסייע לנו בהישרדות עתידית לנוכח סכנה דומה, אבל בכל מקרה החוויה הזו משנה את תפיסת הזמן. למעשה, ריבוי הזיכרונות המפורטים כל כך מחוויה כה קצרה, גורם לנו לאשליה של זמן ממושך יותר.

כך או כך, המחקר בנושא ממשיך. אם יתגבשו מסקנות ברורות יותר, אנו מבטיחים לעדכן. אם נזכור, כן?!?
