It has a area of 16,865 km².
The Shannon covers a fitfh  of the area in Ireland.
The river goes through these counties:
Cavan, Letrim, Rosscomman, Longford, Offaly, Westmeath Galway  Clare, Tipperary,  Limerick and Kerry.
