Where in your own practice do you see opportunities to use it? Are there new mentoring relationships that you could engage in through the use of online mentoring? What challenges, downsides and concerns do you see and have about online mentoring? If you have experience of online mentoring, share what works and doesn’t work in an online mentoring relationship. What should we watch out for?

As I'm working full time, I see it's very useful when having the opportunity to join online courses, so I can do them at night or when I have some minutes along the day. I see it could be useful to do online chats (videocamera chats) so we have a face-to-face conversation. However, I feel it's important to meet the mentee in person, because you express more feelings, agreements or disagreements in person, rather than online

Online mentoring is good because we know that not always is it possible for mentors and mentees to meet face to face and not as often as they should or want to. So , I believe that online mentoring can be an excellent follow-up. Sometimes mentees just need a bit of reassurance or have some doubts, which can easily be solved online. Still, I feel the human touch cannot be eradicated. One should complement the other.

I have no experience in online guidance but in my view it is a way of teaching and learning highly democratic because it equals opportunities for access to knowledge, knowledge and fosters permanent education. Doors open to many, creating the possibility of cross-border, multilevel learning for a wide range of stakeholders, regardless of space and time.

Another factor to consider is that this education strategy favors and encourages the development of the subject's autonomy in their learning process, as it enables them to responsibly and freely manage their studies and research while receiving accurate guidance, support in answering their questions and questions and return to evaluations in process. This autonomy, in turn, provides encouragement and increases self-esteem, opening the subject conditions to perceive capable of accomplishment at the personal and collective levels. However, as regards the relationship between learning, it should be noted that this education strategy does not include the motivation and competition that result from contact between people. The same goes for student-teacher interaction. The spontaneity ceases to exist.

This teaching strategy offers the mentor a new challenge: his method of "teaching" must meet the needs and expectations of the various participants. The mentor should also make an effort to understand the capacities and needs of the mentors without personal contact and direct working experience with the participants.

I usually prefer face to face classes and conversations. Nevertheless, as the society is changing, so are we. For instance, at the university, we used to take advantage from platforms such as moodle where we had to upload some works before a deadline, which is similar to this course. This is an option of using ICTs and facilitating the teaching process to personal situations. With kids, I am considering using another kind of mentoring using an specific website as it could be "Edmodo" where they can create an avatar and nickname and it consists on the same, they should have to upload their tasks and we can even open some online debates related to topics focused on their interests. It requires more effort on behalf of the teacher, but at the same time is something more appealing for them and we should not forget, that we are dealing with digital natives. Some negative aspects that we should take care of, are: making compulsory that every comment before being public must be directed to us and we have to give permission an so on.

I found the two videos very enlightening since I’ve never been involved in a mentoring relationship and made me think about online mentoring in particular.
I’m all for taking advantage of technology and therefore believe that one of the advantages of online mentoring is the flexibility in pace and in scheduling as the interactions between mentor/mentee are asynchronous. Besides, as it’s said in one of the videos, the location of the mentoring process is immaterial and can be performed 24/7. Just like with MOOCs or any other TDC, as a mentor or a mentee, the environment where I’m in plays a very important role and that’s one of the reasons I choose to enrol in online courses J: no sense of discomfort or distress and I do things at my own pace. The word is self-explanatory and recording implies there’s a record of discussion for later review and reflection. Moreover, there’s more than one electronic communication method that can be used (e.g. chatrooms, threaded discussions).
As for possible disadvantages of online mentoring, I said before that location is immaterial but, as obvious as it may seem, both need internet access and this process of online mentoring may turn onerous in case new software needs to be purchased. As is also mentioned in the videos, there’s no way to share a real café or cup of tea (only a virtual one!) and establishing a rapport with someone we may have never met before may turn out to be difficult. Even though I have never done it or read much about the subject, I wonder if, in some cases, online mentoring can be more time consuming than F2F mentoring and therefore much more challenging.

I have some experiences in online mentoring. I have used e-learning platforms, webinars, and other tools. I think that, due to the lack of time for formal meetings, online mentoring is an important asset to succeed in having continuous contact with mentees, especially if mentor works in different schools. Moreover, online mentoring allows flexibility in managing the time. Anyway, I think online mentoring can’t completely substitute real meetings with the mentee. My ideal is a kind of blended learning, where online and face-to-face approaches integrate each other.

There are a few things I think that need to be considered like the active engagement of the mentees, or achieving a real communication. I think it is a really good idea to have weekly live sessions where the mentor and a couple of mentees come together online and share some critical incidents from their class and discuss on these. The mentor and the mentee could work on the lesson plan, or the observation notes upon both of their convenience. Also Google hangout could be less distractive than the physical presence of the mentor in class if managed well. The first thing to ensure is well-functioning tech and rehearsing with it beforehand.

I haven't experiences of online mentoring, but I think that could be interesting begin many teachers relationships: online tools have this possibility. So the exchange of knowledges and practices (strategies, methodologies...) can arise our teaching; flexibility of access (time, spaces...) that depends from available of participants is important. For mentoring, but for all human communications, is important to organize other moments (live meeting); however there are more positive aspects that negative with online teaching or mentoring!
Finally we should be pay attention, 2 things: a too big time passed online; too large mass of information that are difficult for our good teaching.

They will help not to loose the human touch. The mentor should enter physically in the classroom, because if the camera can help catch things from an objective point of view it can't intercept feelings or the " mood of the class" that is a combination of a plethora of tiny factors.

Since online mentoring is missing that human touch, it carries the danger of being misunderstood or offended. So in online mentoring it is crucial to use a language which is polite and in the frame of netiquette behaviour. When there is a problem or a dilemma it is always harder to solve it by writing messages, and is so much easier to do it live. Great thing about online mentoring is time and space organization, which is free and individual.

The flexibility it offers in terms of time and place is a huge advantage for busy mentors and mentees. Moreover, the use of video-recordings of lessons allows the mentor and mentee to analyse every little detail they might decide on. Finally, the opportunity to watch the recording of the online session with the mentor a second time might be especially useful for the mentee. In a properly designed online mentoring programme with experienced and insightful mentors, even the human touch could be captured.

I can see a lot of opportunities of using online mentoring. I have two online courses which I use with my pupils. One is for acquiring new knowledge, other one is for repetition of teaching contents. The criteria are the same for all students. Students receive information at the same time. They can work at a time that suits them. Deadlines force them to be responsible for the work they need to do. They get feedback for each task. We cannot control whether they work alone or with help. Group work is hard to do because not everyone accepts it. In last 2 years I am mentor in course for teachers. This is much more difficult because there are many participants and they cannot make contact with each participant.

I do not think that online mentoring would apply to my context, unless it was used as a means of providing training for teachers whose eexperience of mentoring was minimal. This could be a way of enagaging in new mentoring relationships with experst and more experience mentors who would offer na opportunity to learn and gain knowledeg na competences in mentoring, exactly as seesm to be occurring with this course. Besides the obvious lack of “human touch” ( Maria San Martin) , there seem to be a considerable number of assests associated to onçline mentoring: the reduction of costs, the fact that i tis available around the clock, the possibility to engage in a diversity of activities and exchanges made possible throught the use of a plethora of technlogical tools. My main concern would be that it seems to require sound digital litearcy.

I have participe in some online personal developments and webinars and I think, in the second case, the lack of human touch is kind of reduce. So it is why I consider those kind of events important in online mentoring.

I think online mentoring would be useful if mentor and mentee are in different schools or if there is no chance to meet face to face. It could be useful as an add-on, but not as a substitute, because, in my opinion, the level of trust and confidence could be reduced. Technology helps us a lot, but it is cold. When talking about teaching and learning, whether students, mentees or mentors, the human touch is necessary

I have never been online mentor but time to time I participated in online courses and webinars. I think it is great opportunity of learning, gaining knowledge and sharing experience. A new online mentoring relationship is one of way of cooperation. But face to face meeting is also nessesary to good teacher collaboration.

I think mentoring online can be useful when there is no opportunity to meet. But being both teachers inside the same classroom can become crucial in some situations when close watching is needed to work out strategies , problems, difficult to see if you are not there.

I find very useful mentoring on line because you can organize your day like you want, it is practical I am agree, because we avoid to use chart or talking boxes but we create a conversation environment. The technology help individual because we haven't got a lot of papers, beside is useful to know the strategies and methodologies that the mentee can review a lot of time in video records. There isn't the human contact that is important.

I think that online mentoring is a good strategy when is not possible to meet in person. The only experience I have that might be sightly similar to this consists on eTwinning online events, where we are able to learn about many different topics. Although it lacks the human touch I believe there is an effective learning and sharing of ideas, doubts or others.

I hadn't had any experience on online mentoring before but now I'm working on an online course about mentoring teachers around the world with IPF. It could be a great experience to share with other teachers our opinions and viewpoints in different technics and strategies of using technology in teaching.

Online mentoring is a nice idea and good as as start.

Online mentoring is quite advantageous in cases where the mentor is asked to support teachers in different schools, some of which may be distant and difficult to reach as in case of isolated island and mountainous regions. It could compensate for lack of resources and meaningful collaboration with other novice or experienced teachers if it is combined with the use of video recordings of lessons and live video conferencing. It could be a useful way of communicating and collaborating ideas and practices with teachers and schools from past placements. It is not the same as a face to face mentoring meeting and is no substitute for the authenticity, mutuality and trust developed in a live conversation but it is a good way of sharing thoughts and feelings with a greater community of teaching professionals without any of the time constraints or the bureaucracy involved in scheduled meetings.

Nowadays, online mentoring is very important and also offers many benefits. I have experience in online mentoring as I have organized as an eTwinning ambassador several webinars to train teachers and etwinners from different schools, disciplines and countries. Based on my experience I see that the online mentor must always allocate time well and prepare the documents to be used. Good continuous monitoring is one of the criteria for the success of an online mentor. On the other hand, I see that the online mentor must consider the variety and difference in the levels of his mentees, must create opportunities for his mentees to react with him. It is also necessary to create an atmosphere of trust and especially of sympathy between the mentor and his mentees, he is not a robot behind the screen. Always human warmth can create an atmosphere of satisfaction and can bring the relationship between mentor and mentees closer together.

Challenges are student discomfort and mentee, a third person should be present to record the teaching process, and it can further cause discomfort in the classroom. An advantage for me is the ability to mentor a mentee who we don’t often see in the classroom because of work commitments. It is also good that together with mentee we can look at part by part of the lesson, analyze it and discuss the individual segments. Also, we can go back to the same lesson several times and notice different components as needed.

I've never been involved in online mentoring, but I think that it might be a very useful tool. ICT tools should be used to help us and to share experiences.

I believe in a hybrid mentoring. First some face-to-face meetings to establish communication between mentor and mentee. Then video or voice calls can help overcome obstacles like the time spent by the mentor when commuting, time availability for meetings and distance.
The on-line mentoring gives more time to discuss, more times to interact, lower cost and a way to solve urgent cases in the classroom.
In my opinion, the on-line mentoring is not inferior than face-to-face, under the condition that live meetings from time to time reestablish a good, clear and friendly human communication.

In my opinion, online mentoring has a lot of benefits.
It's asynchronous and gives flexibility regarding space and time. It can be carried out remotely, at any distance, at any place or at any time. I am able to communicate even in cases where the person I work with is at a distance. I can work with several mentee across a range of locations. The knowledge can be targeted and shared more widely and immediately.
During mentoring we have more time to process the information we share, to think about our goals and to organize our steps to achieve them. The material we share is in written form and therefore at our disposal at any time. Another important factor is the quality of the interaction of the mentee with me whenever he needs me.
Mentoring may be done via the following channels:
Emails, Voice Calls, Video Calls, Online forums, Learning Communities
It is advisable for online mentoring to use frequent videos and cameras and not to do text only.
However, by using online mentoring you lack human contact that develops deeper and more meaningful relationships. Even more, I suggest that mentoring be combined with face-to-face meetings.
It is important to note that online mentoring cannot directly record and solve problems of the mentee such as managing the stress in the classroom but maybe it is a useful complementary tool to the new teacher's reflection.

I never used online mentoring activities but I think that it could be one of the mentoring tools. In a couple of week I will start an activity as a trainer and I am required to supervise the PBL work of teachers in different schools, surely I will experience the mentoring online.

Online mentoring gives me the opportunity to get involved with mentoring with people from different geographical areas, without space-time constraints (e.g. time of day). There is flexibility, I can adjust the time of my study, for example, to study at night time, when contact with the mentor usually is impossible. We also can communicate without affecting our schedule and without meetings, which often cost money.

With online mentoring, I maintain accurate records, which are useful for studying and elaboration. I have time to review the material, prepare questions and answers. I am not pressured by the immediate response, and so I have time for constructive reflection and feedback. The written word clarifies possible misunderstandings. That is why we need to be very careful in our messages.

Group mentoring is also available, which further enriches the whole process. However, I think it is good to have a small number of participants.

However, one disadvantage of online mentoring is often technological malfunctions, difficulty in using technology and written communication skills, as well as delay in developing relationships.
Online mentoring can make communication difficult and create misunderstandings or just bad interactions. Simple movements, such as a smile or a nod to the head, can be lost while mentoring online. Also, psychological support through discussion is often more limited.

I myself prefer having a face-to-face mentoring combined with an online mentoring, with the first kind as a base for deeper relationship development and the second one as help for practical reason.

I think that online mentoring can be good thing for both. I lead some training online and that is going well, but I think that some people from my environment are suspicious about online mentoring or learning anyway. combination of video lessons and one-to-one mentoring can be powerful tool for improvement competences for teaching.

I'm used to trainings online. I usually train and help teachers from across the world via Skype, but I've done it also through Hangouts, WhatsApp or Messenger. Now I'm learning how to use Microsoft Teams.
I'm leading a team of teachers from different countries and we're running a project called "Litter@sea". We meet from time to time to discuss our ideas and work together.
I guess a mentor needs to establish first what he/she wants to observe in the first place.
If it is the teacher's posture, then the camera needs to be posed strategically, but even so it can be tricky, as teachers shouldn't be always in front of the class.

Although there might be situations in which there is no other posbility of effective mentoring and online activities would be the only viable approach, personally I don't think I would suggest it as an alternative in any other scenarios. I consider personal contact, a cup of tea, a glance, a handshake vital parts in building up an effective mentoring relation and so I am afraid that the rapport built only online would lack a pillar and the process would be impaired somehow, may be even in a substantial way with some personalities ( both mentors and metees)

What are the advantages and challenges of mentoring online?
Besides the points Rachel explains in her video, the different opportunities to use mentoring online, I have some other ideas to share.
From my point of view online mentoring will work better if you have had the opportunity to meet before the whole process, if you have built some kind of relationship before you start the mentoring relationship. That is ideally, of course.
I find mentoring online specially appropriate for teachers in remote areas or locations where contact with mentors maybe difficult, and isolated teachers find it difficult to get answers to their many questions and everyday doubts when starting teaching mainly.

I fing online mentoring in these cases as almost a salvation board, something you can hung on to.

Of course, if you train mentors to mentor online, making them experts in the field, their ability to help teachers may be greater and more important. I still believe there must be some kind of training. After watching Mª Jesús video, I have become aware this is already going on in Spain. Well, the truth is I had never heard of that training before, and I believe it is well thought of, well structured and with mentors who are real teachers still working in the classroom, it may be a great opportunity to the teaching community.

We must not forget the convenience of mentoring online in big cities, where you can spend longer going to a school than mentoring itself. In this case, mentoring online again is beneficial for both mentor and mentee.

Yes, mentoring online is a great opportunity to get the help otherwise would be impossible or very difficult to get, but at the same time I believe it is always better, when possible, to proceed with the regular formula of physical presence of mentor and mentee in the same place, because in this way we will always keep the personal touch so important in the mentor-mentee relationship.

I do not have any personal experience mentoring online, but those opportunities I have had talking informally to some teacher friends about different problems we might have had in common and we have discussed them online, but I wouldn´t consider that mentoring.

Online mentoring enables collaboration independent of space and time. Peer monitoring can be facilitated in which multiple mentors participate. The challenges are the use of technology or the person who will be recording (the presents of the third part) and indirect communication that can cause more misunderstandings

Online mentoring could be very useful in my own context. Yet, some technological hindrances impede this to happen. Nevertheless, there are some situations, very particular situations where I see this could be possible, especially with highly motivated teachers.

In my practice, I certainly see opportunities for mentoring through online mentoring.

I think mentoring online can be useful when there is no opportunity to meet. But being both teachers inside the same classroom can become crucial in some situations when close watching is needed to work out strategies , problems, difficult to see if you are not there.

I think we can use online mentoring combinated with face to face mentoring. As Rachel says the emotions are important in the mentor-mentee relation and we can observe those emotions only face to face. However sometimes when its not possible to see face to face our mentees we can use the online meetings.

Today we are living in a world where the one invariable is that nothing is constant. It is a world of change and adaptation. As a result, we're facing a different kind of situations, each of them is more complex and challenging to deal with. Good digital or video assessment tools lead the way in helping us do our job as teachers
To my mind, mentorin
To my mind, mentoring on line can be useful in combination with face to face mentoring. You can't build a trusting and personal but also professional relationship through an online course. It could, though, provide preparation and consolidation, offer extra material and so on.

I never had the experience of online mentoring but I think this could be an option to consider, especially if the teacher works in many schools or if mentor and mentee live far away. The flexibility of time and space is very important. I think the establishment of regular meetings would turn out to be positive, however I believe there are some situations only face-to-face interaction can solve.

Mentoring online could be a good option for teachers working in small schools

I do not see how it
I do not see how it would be useful in my own personal context. I prefer the face to face meetings and observations to allow me to build a relationship with the mentee and to interact more fully with them.

However I could see where it would be very useful, allowing mentors and mentee to have a chance to interact... despite distance between them.

Mentoring online can be useful as an addition to face to face mentoring relationship, not as replacement. It is useful when the mentor and the mentee are not in the same school or place, and then could help to make this relationship constantly. I have never used it before.

This online course is a proven fact that using technology is beneficial as time and place flexibility made it possible to gather together teachers from different countries in a way that enriches us all. We learn through videos, shared opinions for later reflection and improvement. We self-regulate our learning process at our own pace.
One can argue that a face to face conversation would offer more authentic conversations in a mentoring process. Ensuring real, meaningful conversations to compensate for the lack of human touch is the challenge for a successful online mentoring.

Online mentoring has its own advantages and disadvantages. On the positive side, it offers flexibility in terms of time and place. On the other hand it lacks human touch and can be misunderstood easily. However, if I had to choose, I would choose to have online mentoring over no mentoring at all.

I think you have to be very careful if you want to use a video during mentoring, since the relationship and social interaction with your mentee is a very big and important part. I would use videos mainly to record observations and only analyse them together. If you, as a mentor, would analyse it alone, it might give the mentee the impression of an assessment and then we go back to the discussion about sharing all of your notes with your mentee.

I have never been in a mentoring state however like all online sessions it does provide an enourmous degree of flexibility in terms of time and space. On the opposite side it does hold certaion risks as bad internet connection that could possibly burden communication. Another drawback to online sessions is that it could be pretty impersonal and may lead to a weaker mentor-mentee relationship.

Although I have never tried online mentoring, I believe it has more benefits for those involved in it than drawbacks.

Although I don’t have any experience of online mentoring, I agree with Mrs María Jesús that the main drawback of it is that it loses the human touch. Mentors should pay attention to enrich their online mentoring with live events such as webinars, online conversations, hangouts, online visits. Also they should often use the technique of video recording..

I believe, online mentoring could had helped me a lot, when – at the beginning of my career as a teacher- I was working in a small isolated island of the Aegean Sea.

Ideally, as @ Maria Cersosimo, Italy wrote, “I would prefer a mixed solution. I mean online sessions mixed up with real meeting. They will help not to lose the human touch”

I also agree with @Carmina, Portugal who wrote in the padlet, “There's always the problem of the equipment you have to overcome, but it's a great principle to adopt in a mentoring relationship”.

I have already participated in a number of eTwinning projects, in which we use online visits to arrange/ plan/ develop our projects and this is something that always attracts students and makes it really easy to work with people from all over the world. I have also made some formation using video which have turned out to be great as we can share ideas and opinions just like if we were in a meeting side, by side. There's always the problem of the equipment you have to overcome, but it's a great principle to adopt in a mentoring relationship.

Although mentoring is not applied in the Greek system, I believe that the online mentoring has many advantages like: 1) when mentor and mentee are far away (Greek islands) or there is no time for F2F communication 2) when there is a need for more frequent communication than once, 3) exchange various mentor's methods of teaching and mentee's methods of teaching as well and discuss on them.

I have no experience at all in this field, but I think that online mentoring can be an option if the mentee is sufficiently self-confident and works in a "safe" environment without any relevant issues during his/her first lessons. On the other hand, if the mentee starts working in a school with difficult students in overcrowded classrooms, for example, many issues may arise that only a face-to-face mentoring relationship could solve.

I would be extremely curious to try an online mentoring but perhaps I would prefer a mixed solution. I mean online sessions mixed up with real meeting. They will help not to loose the human touch. The mentor should enter physically in the classroom, because if the camera can help catch things from an objective point of view it can't intercept feelings or the " mood of the class" that is a combination of a plethora of tiny factors.

Online mentoring could have positive aftermath. Mentee and mentor could have some advantages of this kind of mentoring. For instance they shouldn’t be at the class in the same time but they know everything what was happening at. They have better perspective of every part of class and could have better discussion about the topic.

It is the combination between some minimum f2f meetings and class observations along with many online meetings/discussions and recorded lessons that makes it feasible for the online monitoring to succeed. Online meeting can be a plus in what concerns mentoring.
This way, I see it in two possible perspectives:
a) create an online evente where different trainees and mentors (preferably from different schools / regions) can share their perspectives about school, students, planing, expectations, joys and sorrows....
b) by other hand, online mentoring can be also important to keep in touch with 'ex' mentees, in order to discuss all sorts of issues, now they are by their own; especially if they move in to a different school / region...
In what concerns my experience, I've never done it in a formal way (online mentoring). However, i still keep in touch with former mentees by using different social apps.

Greece has hundreds of small islands where face to face mentoring is not easy to occur. On line mentoring can take place and newly appointed teachers get attached to experienced ones. Skype can assist face to face communication while a well structured online programme can facilitate their professional development and alleviate their experiences of isolation and loneliness.

I will definitely try the online mentoring, however, I don't think I should limit it to just online mentoring, as the human afce to face approach, in my opinion, is still very valid and maybe more effective, while observing more things than a camera would capture. So, a mixture of both might do the trick. The trick is to find the right balance.

I have no experience with online mentoring.

Hello! After watching the videos and reflecting on the topic, I think that the best way to create effective mentoring relationship is to have 'blended' one. It would make it possible to combine the human touch of the face-to-face communication with flexibility of online mentoring. The additional challenge for the mentor and the mentee would be to learn using more technologies.

I think that I will start using online mentoring this year as I might have two mentees, one in my class and one in my other class. Online mentoring is a good and flexible alternative for both mentor and mentee, meetings are not limited by time or location constraints. There is another key point, that there is good feed-back, relevant for both parties, by watching video recordings that offer strategies, methods and working tools. Furthermore
online mentoring is the best solution when the mentor and mentee cannot meet face to face.
The advantages are:
- It’s easy, always accessible and informal
- Allows 24/7 support
- Allows more regular and effective support
- Allows a number of other educational resources such as conversation, chats, thematic forums, video viewing and the use of other computer applications, sharing of ideas, using databases of information.
Disadvantages:
- It is more rather impersonal and does not allow to drink a coffee together or to make a friendly chat.
- It does not allow establishing a normal pedagogical/
personal relationship.

I have no experience of using online mentoring. While I can see that it would have advantages and it is flexible, accessible and easy to use now, I still feel that face to face mentoring sessions and being there in the classroom to get a feel for the atmosphere and see all that is going on within the classroom are necessary. The video will capture only part of the room – so it wouldn’t be possible to see all of the pupils and the teacher during the lesson. It´s important to point out the fact that the mentor will be available for the mentee 24 hours a day. Moreover, they can set up weekly meetings to check how eveything is going on. All these these steps compensate for the lack of human touch and make the mentoring job a positive and rewarding experience.

I know that technology and computer is a big part of our time, work and instruction, it is a trend. But what about the human part? even in thic courses you ask us to use different devices. For example this Differ apps. On my computer it doesn't work. Have you ever thought about teachers that have Internet once or twice a Week and they still want to attend their courses. There are places, not only in my country, where there is no Internet, schools that do not have performant devices, etc.
these activities should be for everyone not only for some of us. I do not agree with on line mentoring, there is no person to person contact and also it is not useful. sometimes just time consuming.

Online mentoring has a lot of advantages. First of all, it does not have to take place simultaneously. A video can be recorded and the other person can watch it whenever he/she can. Additionally, he/she can watch it over and over again, taking notes and asking questions through messages or e-mails. Moreover, a person can watch it in his/her home without having the obligation to travel to meet with the other person. This way is easier, more convinient, time - flexible and evolves new technologies, of which new generations are so fond, as we all know. And our mentees belong to new generation, the generation of the internet and the distant and internal learning.

That's what we experience as eTwinning ambassador in my region, in Italy in Emilia-Romagna. We organize online webinars and mentoring sessions for new eTwinners and also go in the schools to meet teachers and help them both through the eTwinning platform, with the dedicated groups, and personally, through direct contacts. Of course a mentoring experience with student teachers is more articulated over time, in space and in the ways of realization, but I believe that the experience realized in the eTwinning community can surely facilitate the exchange of ideas and proactive experiences

Soon I should be encluded in online mentoring tasks as a part of providing support to teachers in the implementation of the national education reform. But so far, I have used online mentoring only in situations of using online communication to provide pupils with the written feedback on their .doc essay drafts (through e-mails) or on the presentation they are working on (by leaving notes in the comment section of a shared .ppt document) or on completion of the steps of their project work (in a social communication tool where we have a class group). Using nice emoticons, being positive and praising and challenging them to do the treasure hunt of finding the correct ways to write something spelled in a wrong way, for example, does wonders. Also, giving a written feedback helps you draft and edit your thoughts, be more systematic and self-reflective, be more focused on the goal. The downsides are that your eyes get red after hours of online mentoring, your back or your neck ache, your body decreases in the fitness and condition, it's time-consuming and you might get into too great detail. And you spend less time really engaged with your family and work more at night when your family is asleep.
