The book also has great illustrations which is good for Early writers

One activity that I could do with this book is a sequence activity ( Beginning, Middle, End). An activity that could be used in the class would be writing about that cause and effect. for example " When the mouse goes to ___ he will want ___" and then write a few sentences why.

"Ish"

Author and Illustrator: Peter H Reynolds

This book is very encouraging for young/ new writers as the main character is encouraged to keep on drawing because his drawing it is still a "drawing-ish" In class we can have the students do their own drawing and then they can write a sentence or two. For example, they can draw a flower and say "this is my flower-ish". This allows for students to connect art with discriptive words.

The students will write down a few new words that they want to "collect." They can keep this journal and use it for assignments

"The Snowy Day"

Author and Illustrator: Ezra Jack Keats

"The Snowy Day" is a great book that models sequences and sensory language. This book is great for emergent writers because it helps them begin to learn describing experiences.

An activity that could be tied to this could be "If it snowed..."

after reading this book students will then write a few sentences on what they would do if it snowed tying the experiences they heard in the book.
