Today was the first day back after the summer holiday and it was an information overload but I felt I digested all of the relevant information given to us through my notes taken. Then, after lunch, we were given our brief. I decided I wanted to create a study zone of some sort, whether it be a cafe, library, etc, as its been an idea stuck at the back of my mind for a while now. My aim is to create a mini concept cafe from scratch.

I used Milanote to aid my research by looking into competitors of my brand, what my brand aims to achieve, and the location of the brand. The Milnote consists of the Brand identity, Competitors, Logo Moodboards, etc. It was an essential part of my research and process.

Typography

When finding a suitable typeface for the brand, I went through multiple different typefaces to see which one worked the best. I eventually went with 'Pretendard' as I felt it was sleek, minimal, & modern—all things the brand identifies with.

After choosing a typeface, I began with designing a logo. I had many ideas for a logo, and that can be seen throughout my mood board, my sketches, and my drafts (on Illustrator). I eventually stuck with the squiggle "m" idea as I believed it to be modern, unique, and creative and also give the element of sketching & note-taking, both things the cafe will want to reinforce students to do and make them feel comfortable doing (in the space).

This was a super short workshop but it offered me creative avenues I haven't been down since I was doing my GCSEs, and it was really refreshing and exciting.

I think if I were to take this further, I would take things in everyday life and try and redesign them with the intention of improving them and being playful (e.g how could I improve the functionality of a bus stop timetable?, etc.).

Working with Ollie and Klara we created this piece called 'Another Man's Treasure'.

The idea behind it is that a colony of ants have claimed an old warrior helmet from a war long ago. They've created a civilization around it and worship the helmet, as they believe this helmet to be something sent to them by the ant gods.

Following from my learning team, I decided I wanted to really pursue the idea of having a choir or something along those lines chanting football chants but all in unison and harmony in an unorthodox setting.

I used after effects as I wanted to use the value graph ramp to create a slow fade in and moderately slow fade out effect.

Courtesy of Matt, here's a video of all the VFX examples done by Min (our colour grader). The final example was exported in a 4:3 aspect ratio to make it similar to films in that era (the 80's).
